Anti-Semitic? I didn’t mention any of the Semitic peoples, Arab or Jew. But that weak distraction aside, how do you describe a one-sided relationship where a nation state cannot survive on its own without the direct, sustained economic and geopolitical sustenance of another nation state, which in turn recognizes only negative consequence for its benevolence? |
It’s really difficult to kill enough innocent people to make a problem like that go away. This friction will be around for a while, I’m afraid. |
Sincere answer: sounds great to me, provided that individual rights and freedom of religion were also respected. ("Democracy" is no guarantee of either). Unfortunately, a pipe dream. |
NP... what difference would the name of the state make? Israel was rather arbitrary, in the past it was Judea... would that suit you better? |
Canadian. Never been to Israel. |
Superiority? Global life expectancy, standard of living, respect for human rights, treatment of women and minority groups are all better in this era than at literally any other point in recorded history. As for your other questions: 1. Strategic interest: if you need a primer on this, you have no business opining on this topic. But for starters, guess where the US gets much of its intelligence on the greatest regional threat? 2. Why? Is that even relevant? But check out immediate post-WWII history for insight. Consider also the behavior of Palestinians, their allies, and the behavior of both since 1947. Hardly calibrated to elicit sympathy among the US public. Add in religiousity here and a dose of Islamophobia, along with about 10 other factors and you’ll have an answer. 3. Ask Hamas, Hizbollah, the PLO, Iran, the surrounding Arab states, etc., etc. Any further questions? |
I mean you literally just used one of the most infamous slurs in history. So well known that it has its own Wiki page ("Jews as parasites"). Apparently unknowingly. This might lead a reasonable person to conclude that they lack the knowledge to intelligently opine. Just sayin'. |
My holy texts? What are you talking about? |
Is it really possible that you are SO ignorant of history? Are you really not aware that referring to Jews as parasites is a grand old tradition? You know who made it most famous? "[The Jew] is and remains the eternal parasite, a parasite that spreads more and more like a harmful bacillus, as well as inviting only a favourable culture medium. The effect of its existence, however, is similar to that of parasites: where it occurs, the host people die after a shorter or longer time." — Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf Congratulations, you won today's prize. Maybe you don't have a place in this discussion. |
And yet, people are historically less satisfied than at any time in modern history. 1. The "greatest regional threat" is a product of the source of that so-called intelligence gathering partnership. It's like justifying charging you $300.00 to detail your car after I borrow it and, drive drunk, and vomit all over the interior. Hey, for billions of dollars in aid, Sam, I'll tell you what's going on with the people I'm failing to find co-existence with here in my new house that you paid for. 2. Leaning on the feeble mindedness of my fellow Americans doesn't answer the question. Just say corruption, misdirection, distortion of facts, and stupidity. Save words. 3. See #1 above. I know you think you're a mountain of knowledge and intellectual might (no doubt due to your chosen one status, which I admittedly cannot compete with), but save your condescension for those who buy the fairytale. No takers here. |
Thanks for conceding the objective reality re: the current era. You familiar with the history of Iran? Doesn't quite support your conclusions. And you've concluded that American's are "feebleminded"? And then accuse me of condescension? Physician, heal thyself. Finally, re: #3, thanks for clarifying that you believe that the state of Israel should not exist. True colors revealed. Bravo. |
I haven't read it, and don't view the Jewish people through that lens. I guess you can try to shout down my criticisms of a very narrow group (the leadership of the State of Israel) because you feel that it is an attack of you in wherever you are, but it's not intended for you. |
A sincere question: If you could be assured that a truly democratic state could exist in the region, where indigenous and immigrant people from both sides (Jews and Palestinians alike) could live in peaceful co-existence with one another without any threat of existential danger, would you oppose it if the name of the state was to be changed from Israel? Is any of that a disqualified for you? |
It is odd bringing Jesus into this conversation. |
Palestinians never describe themselves as having self control. Always saying they are incable of not being murderously angry. |
