Has Kate Stewart been leading on any of the crime issues in her district? Has she made it a priority? Does she speak about it? |
I voted for him twice, but with his tax increases that lack of accountability for MCPS spending is unacceptable. He needs to go. |
They pass this tax hike, and I'll deal with it by moving out of the county. |
Um, you might want to deal with this now by calling/emailing your councilmember to voice your opinion. If they pass the recordation tax increase, it's going to be more expensive when you sell your house to move out of the county. And you will also be on the hook for a year's worth of increased property taxes. Plus, if you sell, where are you going to get another low interest rate mortgage (unless you buy cash)? Lots of considerations. |
Thanks a lot Elrich! ![]() |
Why wait? Move now! |
Yeah you’d be wise to sell now before recordation taxes increase. |
lots of warning by analysts that he would raise taxes if re-elected. |
Seems premature to sell now, especially as the bill is in committee and not yet ratified. Not sure about the specifics of the bill and what time it would become effective. You could try to provide feedback your councilmember and the four at-large councilmembers. They don't have to listen, but you also don't have to be silent. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/COUNCIL/members/index.html |
He can't do anything about the MCPS budget. The County Council decides how much to appropriate, the Board of Education decides what to spend it on. |
I am not the PP who is saying they'll move, but it seems like the PP doesn't like it here anyway. So, why wait to move? |
They added a $20K signing bonus that has brought in a few recruits, but numbers are still very low. The department is projected to be 250 officers down in just a couple of years, and that includes the efforts of this bonus. That’s an absurd amount of vacancies for a department that only has 1100ish officers. |
I don't agree with that. Both Elrich and County Council can put pressure on the Board of Education to scrutinize MCPS spending. If they make enough noise and convey the public's point of view that there is fat to be trimmed, it would be harder for the Board of Education to turn a blind eye. They can also not recommend/appropriate enough, forcing the Board to prioritize. Or if they make enough noise, maybe the public would vote for board members with a spine. Seems like you can't get elected to the board without the support of the teacher's union, which seems like a conflict of interest. Like anyone would support a board member that wants to restructure their dept or reduce their pay/benefits/ancillary perks. |
Have you followed MCPS public affairs at all? No, it is not a conflict of interest for teachers to vote in elections for the Board of Education, or for the teachers' union to take a position on an election. |
They don’t have to find it. They could decrease it or increase it. |
