| I went back and re-read the story in the Washingtonian Magazine about the Landon cheating scandal in 2003. It mentioned another story about 3 boys getting in big trouble at the Washington Hilton during Model UN for smoking marijuana. These trangressions seem to be endless. |
I don't care that much about smoking pot. I care about an environment of hubris that encourages young men to dehumanize young women, as happened with Huguely and now with the sex list. |
The one mentioned publicised by Maureen Dowd, unless you are implying that Landon is responsible for George Hugueley murdering his girlfriend. Then again, maybe you are. |
And you are living in a dream world if you think cheating and bad behavior at Model UN doesn't go on elsewhere. Some area privates don't even send kids to Model UN because they can't ensure good behavior. |
Posties send their kids to STA. That's why the boys there can engage in pornographic film-making with girls they know, get suspended for it, and it never gets reported! The kids that did this would be graduating from college about now if memory serves. |
If you "Model" your behavior on the UN, then you learn anti-Semitism, corruption, and bloated worthlessness. Why not do some drugs while you're at it? |
Let's see--do you now or have you ever worked for Joe McCarthy? Oh that's right, he's dead, but the spirit lives on. |
| I am beginning to think a lot of you are certifiable. Already we have incidents involving people throwing things from passing cars at sixth grade kids at Landon playing sports. I am going to look at people differently now. I never knew there were so healthy haters willing to believe the worst about people they don't know. A lot of fine young men by ANY standard have been maligned as a group by the sickos posting comments here. I wonder if this is a reflection of something else--the frustration a lot of people are feeling right now--I don't know. |
Dude. McCarthy is SO last century. Why don't you associate his views with some whom people actually remember. Like Saddam. Or, Osama. |
| Does anyone know for sure that at least some of these girls did not know about this? I ask because of a similar incident that occurred at an elite school in New York and the authorities wanted to do something about it but couldn't because the girls' orchestrated it--it then became a debate about their right to do what they wanted with their "bodies." The school decided they had that right. A friend who teaches at an Ohio public high school tells me some girls at her school "sext" the boys all the time. Are the boys making them do it? |
|
| There was a similar occurence at Stone Ridge a few years ago. Can't remember the details or the outcome - there are too many of the stories to keep straight these days! Anyone else remember? |
|
[let's not forget...
In 2006, Landon School alumni were also tied to a scandal involving the Duke University men's lacrosse team and a stripper. At the time, five students from the Landon School were on the Duke lacrosse team.] Uh...weren't they all acquitted? Why is this so important to not forget?
|
They were acquitted of rape. They were not acquitted of hiring two strippers. Hiring strippers is behavior that is consistent with a culture of dehumanizing women. |
Dude (or Dudette), go for it! Maybe you can get the media to pick up a nine year old rumor about St. Albans! Keep posting until you achieve this! Joking aside, though, I think the difference is Facebook. In today's environment any such incident would come out--nothing stays secret once Facebook comes into play--and no doubt would be picked up by media (Washingtonian Magazine has certainly run negative stories on STA in the past). Also, perhaps those affected and in the broader community felt like the punishment meted out by STA was more robust (as compared to here, where disappointment with Landon's response may well have fueled the leak to the NYT). |
