Elrich Now in the Lead

Only the recount is left. No other votes unless a recount brings up surprise uncounted votes.

Wow what an incredibly tight race!

Of course I don't wish that on anyone, I just don't know what the process is since we don't have a Vice-CE or whatever.

LOL. He’s certainly overweight and you could also call him fat, but “morbidly obese”? That’s a massive exaggeration. I think you should mentally prepare yourself for a third Elrich term.

The year is 2027. Marc Elrich is in his third term as County Executive, after defeating David Blair by 6 votes. Blair had spent $10M for his third losing campaign.

As part of a $2 billion Racial Equity initiative, County Executive Elrich and Councilmember Kristin Mink have cosponsored a Racial Justice Task Force (following a 20% tax increase), which will first involve a $50 million commissioned study and analysis of all racial equity impacts of electrified food trucks and Bilingual Drag Queen Story Hours. As the last Fortune 500 company closes its doors in MoCo, the loss in revenue will be offset by state-run marijuana dispensaries.

This is my sincere, earnest hope for Montgomery county!!!! What you describe sounds like a dream come true for me.

I hate this county because of what the left has done to it, and there’s nothing that would make me more giddy than to see it devolve into end-stage liberalism.

Your lips to God’s ears. I hope this happens.

-a Trump supporter (and long-time registered Democrat) who gleefully voted for Marc Elrich last month, because he’s EXACTLY what the liberals of this county so richly deserve.

I see your point.

Blair closed the gap by 8 votes yesterday. Elrich's lead is 27. More to come.

That’s crazy. Anyone know when next update will be?

That update was not entirely accurate. Four of those votes were in batches that were not properly tallied. They also got through way more ballots but did not enter them into the system.

They have to recount yesterday's recount:

They were due to finish counting at 7pm tonight for the day (more batches to go) so I guess they'll announce some results shortly for today's recount.

They corrected the early voting results and David Blair gained one vote.

Who counts as a transplant? How long to you have to live here to have an interest in the community?

I don’t think Blair will pull this one off.

true, but progressives should take note of the teeny tiny margin that Elrich won by.

There are multiple ways to read this.

Elrich is progressive and anti development
Riemer is progressive and pro-development
Blair is moderate and pro-development (but not as much of a hardcore YIMBY as Riemer)

You could say that 60% were agains Elrich, or somewhat more in favor of development, but you could also say 60% wanted a progressive over a moderate.

MoCo leans progressive, and the majority of them live in TP/SS area where Elrich won most of the votes. Go west of 270 and north of ICC, and you will see a lot more Blair support.

Blair won 4 of the 7 Council districts. But Districts 4 and 6 were strongly for Elrich. Most of the county, geographically, wants Blair. But I guess they didn't want him enough, or they would have turned out the vote better.

Here’s a precinct map. Blair indeed won most of 355/270, especially west Bethesda and Potomac. Definitely all the mansion communities along River Road.

Elrich won TP/SS as expected, but also a lot of East County, Aspen Hill, some of Germantown, some of Rockville, and the whole Ag reserve.
Also, despite assumptions that Elrich supporters are mostly old people, Blair won Leisure World.
