So...
who won the 2020 election?

I'm in a marriage like this, and if my spouse starts spouting of Fox nonsense about how there was ballot stuffing (but with no proof produced by any side), I'd have to question how gullible they are.

You assume incorrectly that all registered Republicans subscribe to the propaganda of Fox News or live in a manufactured echo chamber.

So you’re a RINO.

Plenty of R voters hold a set of political views that, if they were elected officials, would get them primaried for being a RINO. But that doesn’t mean they identify or would fit in with Ds. It be like inviting a bunch of Manchins to the party (in states that aren’t WV). They’d probably be very pro-gun, certainly low-taxes, and maybe pro-life, but also socially liberal.

Then where the hell are you guys? Your party is sliding off the rails and taking the country with them!! Get out there and clean your house, ffs!

How can you be friends with people that lack empathy, are generally selfish, and have a serious authoritarian bent? Just curious. I keep hearing about all these Republicans who are “good people” but I haven’t met any, save for the 90 year old dementia patient who didn’t realize her party went to shit 20 years ago.

I have friends who are still Republicans and decent people. It seems to be cultural identity related to some degree as some come from many generations of R and in another case, related to being evangelical Christians.

Many Latino immigrants are Republicans due to what they perceive to be better fit for their conservative values (I actually think Dem have way more family values in substance).

Others still perceive Republicans to be better choice for economic management although I do not agree.

We can’t just dismiss the integrity of millions of people who have different political views/ beliefs.

Ditto -- I have a friend who couldn't bring herself to be a Democrat, so she registered as an Independent and votes Democratic. She hates what has happened to the Republican party and looks forward to the day when she can vote Republican again with a clear conscience.

I’d guess biding their time (and secretly rooting for Cheney to kneecap Trump). Their R policy coalition includes the Trump supporters and the RINOs have been evicted from leadership. They may be okay with a populist “MAGA” agenda if they could just offload Trump. And the D party has limited policy positions that would be appealing to a libertarian, so they aren’t going to jump ship en masse.

Agree. They say they “used to be Republican.” Now, the only people who call themselves Republicans are the Trumpy thugs. Those traitors deserve to be kicked out of the country.

Pretty much. All the smart republicans I know have rethought things. They may technically say they are "republicans" or have stayed registered that way, but they don't vote Republican currently.

Please tell us what a populist MAGA agenda entails. Genuinely asking.

But secretly, they still vote R? Because if there were neocon Rs (and are philosophically still neocon Rs), I can’t imagine they’d vote D. It’s just that the R party is no longer foreign interventionist, right?

Every horrific thing you’ve seen from the GOP in the last fifty years, but with a nice veneer on it. Racism - with a veneer! Hating women - but put an asterisk on it so nice White ladies can get their abortions and work as figureheads in the GOP! Stealing elections - but not openly like Trump and the GOP did on 1/6, more like how they’re codifying Jim Crow back into law and relying on activists to toss out the ballots they don’t want, so make the election stealing look legitimate, with a wink!

Literally. There is one functional political party right now. And then there is the domestic terrorist party. What else would you call it when a woman has to be afraid to have sex with her husband lest their birth control fail? What do you call it when people can’t trust the water coming out of the faucet and kids can’t go outside to play because the air quality is so bad and how do you think that feels for asthmatic people who could literally die? What else is it but domestic terrorism when people have to live in fear of getting sick and being bankrupted and losing their home?

Republicans, when elected, are not afraid to use the authority granted to them, fully and swiftly. That's what appeals to many. These voters know that the 2-3 things they care about (taxes, security etc) will be taken care of. They did not mind aligning with the far right out of convenience. Not sure where many of these voters stand today as they tend to be extremely transactional and a country that is slipping backward will threaten their prosperity and security.

no, my neocon college friend has broken with his church and no longer votes R over the things he has seen in the past few years. He voted for Biden in 2020. He considers himself a libertarian. He also at least used to be friends with Gaetz (I doubt they are friends anymore)

Sad that reasonable folks like you are in the minority on this forum.
