What is happening to young people today?

We gave them guns and ignored their mental health.

What a lovely human. Voters should be ashamed.

He's right.

Studies have shown, time and time again, that the problem is gun control. Every other wealthy nation tightly controls its guns and as a result, has a much lower firearm death rate.

Ban all guns now.

Why? It's true, we also have very easy access to guns, that is what makes us different from other countries.

+1000. Here, here. I'm the ex-military PP. I'm with you 1000%.

If we ban firearms, how do we ensure the bad guys turn theirs in?

You can require a license to buy ammo or the components to pack your own. Also there are ways to identify and track purchases of bullets after they have been fired.

Here we go again with a C word - "can." I think you meant "ought to." Because it's not happening. The sooner people get realistic and pragmatic, the sooner school boards across America can start making plans, and following them through with completed action, to keep kids safe. Like: Plan - metal detectors. Budget, find contractor, install. That simple. Rather than whining and wishing and nothing getting accomplished and kids dying.

Of course, because a metal detector is definitely enough to stop a psycho that shows up at a school with a weapon of war. 🙄🙄🙄

The magical thinking, the complete lack of common sense and logic, this is such an American phenomenon.

Parents, perhaps don't send your children to school in the fall. No one.

Huh. Yes, expressing raw indignation at such a tragedy is shameful. Give me a break. FOAD

As a person suffering from mental disorder, I agree that the mental health has to be taken seriously and fast in this country. But the access to guns in the US is freaking out of control and I doubt that even fixing mental health issues 50%, will help with the gun violence. You have to face the truth. It's hard but you must.

The majority of gun deaths do not happen in schools.

So unless you want to put metal detectors in every public place, have police around every corner, peering into every gun-owning home...

... can't you see that it's much simpler to just ban guns?

Rhetorical question. EVERYONE who has studied the matter and seen the data knows a gun ban is the ONLY solution.
One that's easily implemented, since other wealthy nations did it before us, with great success, ie, fewer gun deaths.

Get going, America.

This man was Latino.

Latino is not a race. Hispanic is actually considered "white".

Backbends to try to make this person a white redneck Come ON. Does this type of statement console the families? No.

This. A lot of white supremacists actually consider Latinos white. Keep in mind that Argentina harbored my nazis after WWII.

But we do have gun laws, and criminals and mentally ill people break them. Keeping guns out of the hands of law abiding, sane citizens will not fix the problem. Crack down on real criminals would be one way to get started. But instead, we're doing the complete opposite.

Good guys with guns are not stopping the bad guys with guns. The gun culture in this country is the problem and the lax regulations are a symptom. It all needs to change.

In this case, the good guys with guns killed the gunman. Why there was not one resource officer at the actual school is a whole other issue. How did he get in?

One resource officer against a mentally unstable shooter with ARs? Who do you think is going to survive that one?

Metal detectors do work. How many mass shootings happen in airports or courts? Don't play coy. They absolutely do work.

You're missing the point. Mental health is not the problem. There is no epidemic of mental health issues that's any worse than in any other country. Mental health is HARD TO TREAT. There is no cure, only management. Part of the management is to stop providing weapons that can kill multiple people in a few seconds, like firearms.

You know what's easy?

GUN CONTROL. Every other developed nation in the world has done it. They don't have nearly as many gun deaths per capita as the USA does.

Giant DUH. Americans are so incredibly stupid.

The issue is that you'd need millions, literally, at every intersection and inside homes.
Because most deaths occur in the home, as accidents or suicides.

Stop with the metal detector argument. You're not going to save a lot of lives that way.

The ONLY way to save the most lives is to ban guns.

This has been researched extensively and all experts are in agreement.

Stop anti-Argentine bigotry.

U.S. had Nazis here. We also have KKK. So. . . does that make us all Nazi KKK white supremacists? No. Your whole bit trashing Argentines is merda
