Then your kid best wear a mask for that class. |
So teach your kids to stand up to him/ her. These adult bullies are insufferable. Be sure to have them smile and say, "Good morning, Mr. Principal!" And tell your kids that if there is any whiff of poor behavior from any adult, you want to know about it. |
Disagree. Depending on the age of the kids, of course, this is a perfect time to teach them self-advocacy. |
Lol. This is not self-advocacy. This is advocating for what entitled Mommy or Daddy demands. |
As a K teacher I’m ready to take it off!!!! |
Use this as an opportunity to weed out crazy teachers. They should not be bullying kids for exercising their statutory rights. Build a dossier if you have to, but the teacher needs to respect the law and suffer the consequences if they discriminate in any way. |
You sound about as mature as your students. |
Newsflash: your principal will continue to be professional. They continue to deal with the fact that you are an entitled parent whose kid can do no harm and will continue to make their job that much harder. |
You sound as sour as a pickle. |
DC’s HS English teacher has announced he’s taking his mask off as soon as he can. |
I have a theory about why many people, including people in this thread, are so angry about masking. It’s because you have internalized the message from media and political leaders that we somehow have control over this virus. That if we just wipe down our groceries, and mask up, and stay home, we can beat this thing.
And we haven’t beaten this thing. So you are incredibly angry at people you view as being irresponsible. Of course, none of that is true. The only thing that impacts this virus is weather and vaccinations. And we can only control one of those things. Residents of ffx county should be proud of our high vaccination rates. And accept that masking, and all of the other human interventions, make very little difference in virus spread. Just compare charts of, say, California and florida. Very similar numbers despite totally different approaches to mitigation. This is out of our hands. Get vaccinated and try to control the misguided fury you have at your neighbors. |
I was just reading something from someone who has lost multiple people who they are close to and a couple handfuls more of acquaintances. I can somewhat sympathize with those people having an emotional block on these conversations. It’s a big difference between “we never cared about Covid” and “my whole family is vaccinated, we distanced and masked, but now that there are tests and treatment and school ventilation is improved it’s time to let the kids unmask at school.” Maybe some people aren’t emotionally ready to hear the gap in those attitudes? Plus those for whom Covid avoidance is a secular religion relish the chance to look down on us heretics. |
My teacher spouse is too. |
False. The death rate is much higher in Florida than in California. Or here. Our behavior during these past two years has had a direct impact on death rates. You can see that in the numbers. Don't minimize what people in this area have done. https://www.bioinformaticscro.com/blog/states-ranked-by-age-adjusted-covid-deaths/ |
I said human intervention makes little difference in virus spread. Vaccines, however, do make a difference in deaths. Even so, according to the link you shared, Florida is pretty close to middle of the pack on deaths. Right by Maryland. |
