I.e., your opinion is that minority populations should be looked down upon and ostracized for being different.

I won’t look down upon them. But DCUM seems to think everyone will be unmasking and celebrating. The reality is it will be maybe be a couple of kids per class and many kids will feel uncomfortable sitting next to a kid unmasked who sneezes/coughs.

I agree. The Trumpkin multi-posters don’t represent a majority.

Unfortunately for you - it’s now a majority including Ds that think it’s time to allow optional mask.

But it isn’t a majority. Just look at Loudoun. Loudoun started unmasking this week and people are reporting 90 percent or higher of masked students. If Loudoun has that number, so will Fairfax.

Yes, this is what we have seen at our Catholic which has allowed students to unmask. The peers are unmasked all weekend long but too afraid to unmask at school. They assume the teachers and admin don't want them to unmask, will hold it against them, and think they are a bad person. Its sad.

Or, those kids don't mind wearing masks at school and have made a decision (or their parents did) that they should keep wearing masks indoors — when they're surrounded by people for 8 hrs a day — until the local transmission rate drops.

The public understands nuance. When cases are high, in this area, everyone masks. When case numbers fall, so do masks. By March 1, if cases continue to fall, then so will masks. If cases go up again, then so will masks.

Who reported that 90% in loudoun were still masked? That is the exact opposite from what I’m hearing, though maybe there is a difference between western & eastern loudoun.

It's only been two days. I wouldn't be surprised if many kids are habituated to masking. It takes a little time for some of us to chsnge gears.

It seems to me he is more worried about what teachers' unions think than parents and kids. But there are more parents and kids than teachers.

Fun fact: for these people in the “non-partisan” positions to get on the Democrat sample ballot, they have to get past the gatekeepers in FCDC. FCDC is losing their minds over the mask thing and also recently implemented an ideological purity test for members and pushed some people out they decided weren’t with them enough. McKay knows he has to get on that blue sample ballot, because that’s what drives about 60% of Fairfax voters. The loons in charge of FCDC bring you this junk.

If Fairfax GOP had a chance to be in charge they’d be no better. Our local party orgs are insane. We need people not backed by them, but that’s a pipe dream.

I am considering running as an independent for school board but I hate people and I don’t have time.

Go read the posts in VA Schools. Many people reporting most kids are still masking.

They fear retribution, not the virus. Most kids in the mall, movies, sports, etc. aren't masked.

I don't care if they mask or not but when they stop masking, I stop stream in/check in. It's just like any other cold at this point.

This. One of our teachers is an absolute loon about covid. She will absolutely treat kids unmasked poorly.

They need to stop quarantine for that. VDH said they could. Lots of states in New England are. PWCS is. But FCPS has no plan to.

I think they need to change it to - don’t come in if you’re actively sick.

Anonymous wrote:This is all insane. Like I said in August, have your kid wear a good n95 mask to school if you are worried. Masks optional. We know the cloth masks are next to useless. It’ll all be ok. Parents need to stop the gnashing of the teeth on both ends of the spectrum here—just be sane. Mask, don’t mask, chill the hell out. The kids are listening to you.

Right. Go mask free if you want. Wear a mask if you want to. If you are actually worried wear one that does something.

Leave other people and their faces alone.

I fear my principal will treat kids poorly.
