DC will drop indoor mask mandate except for schools, public transit and emergency shelters. This makes no sense. I propose a requirement for individuals 65+ to wear masks indoors regardless of vaccination status would save more lives and prevent more hospitalizations. Individuals 65+ who are vaccinated are at higher risk than unvaccinated children.

This is starting to border on comical. My kids all had covid in the last month, and in the case of the one in PK4 at least half the class had covid over winter break. Not one had anything worse than a sore throat. The teachers are all vaccinated. Why do we need to continue this theatre of making kids wear masks all damn day when adults can walk into any indoor space without a mask? |
| Can we at least start with recess? Please? My elementary aged kids are forbidden from speaking at lunch, mask all day....can they at least see their friends smile OUTDOORS? |
I have seen stats to indicate that vaccinated people in their 40s are still at higher risk of Covid complications than UNvaccinated 3 or 4 year olds. So even with the vaccine mandate, most people frequenting bars and restaurants right now are at higher risk from Covid than these little kids wearing masks from dawn til dusk every day at school. What a joke. |
Agreed. I don't know who we are protecting with this at this point. |
| I am now bummed because I’m moving my 2 and 4 year old out of Massachusetts (starting to roll back school/daycare masking in the coming weeks) to DC where nothing is going to change. I honestly don’t know how I’d feel if I had older kids, but masking kids this young is all theatre. |
+100 And maybe allow my kids to play with others at stations, and sit with friends during lunch? The pandemic is over for everyone but our kids. |
| It is absolutely inhumane that they make these kids mask outdoors. Unconscionable. |
| Start documenting all the tweets now about which politician wants your kid masked. |
Where did you hear this? Genuinely curious. |
It was announced today. |
|
DC won’t drop school masks until CDC changes guidance on this.
But they certainly can stop mandating it outdoors. |
Why delay the vaccination requirement in schools? There are Covid hubs in every ward - every age eligible child has access to the vaccine. Why wait? |

Quote from Perry Stein on twitter
"A parent asks the chancellor why D.C. students are still required to wear masks outside, including at recess. Chancellor says city is evaluating protocols and is expected to issue new guidance in the coming days that will touch on this." maybe there's hope for no masks outside? |
Disruption in kids going to school, a whole new record-keeping task for schools, disproportionate impacts by race, vaccine still under EUA, etc. |
