Reinstate School Resource Officers at MCPS

Elrich and McKnight held a press conference yesterday. Police officers will be in all high schools this week. They are revisiting a permanent placement.

Yes, they will say that they made changes. They will probably call it something else. But police will be back starting today. It only took a kid in critical condition and a gun at another high school for them to see that there’s a need.

How is this going to help? Anytime there's been an active shooter more often than not the SRO is nowhere to be found. I think the SRO at Parkland even ran away.

How is this going to help? Anytime there's been an active shooter more often than not the SRO is nowhere to be found. I think the SRO at Parkland even ran away.

Stop talking about the one example in Parkland that you can think of to vilify SROs. Plenty of examples where an SRO has stopped violence - before it happens and during. An SRO stopped a Clarksburg student from using the gun that was in his backpack.

Stop talking about the one example in Parkland that you can think of to vilify SROs. Plenty of examples where an SRO has stopped violence - before it happens and during. An SRO stopped a Clarksburg student from using the gun that was in his backpack.

+1 And if ^PP wants to villify an entire group of people for the actions of one bad apple, then we can play that game, too, and I'm sure the ^PP would not like the outcome. So, keep at it if you want people to start lumping an entire goup together as "bad" because of one bad apple.

Last night my DD was saying that she feels safer with SROs. When there was that dumb bomb threat from a tiktok challenge, and there were cops around the schools, DD said she felt safer. Initially, when she heard about the bomb threat, she was scared to go to school, but seeing the cops calmed her a bit. After what happened at MHS, DD said she wants SROs back.

All students deserve to feel safe at school. We need more bodies in the high schools and I am happy the SRO's will be there and kids will see their presence.

I am not a Trumpie, but I do believe that schools need to feel safe which they don't right now.

And if they are doing something wrong, I would much rather a police officer trained in adolescents be there to help the situation rather than an administration who has no idea what to do. Safety needs to come before personal feelings in school.
