trump has been despicable on this but like many other governments seems to have turned the corner recently. the time between “it’s just the flu” and “close everything” is now less than a week. people who were out drinking this weekend will beg for a curfew in a few days.
as PP pointed out the only governments that were ready were those who already went through it. next time we will be better prepared. |

What happens after social distancing?
Let's say my family does social distancing for a 1 month or even 2 When we go back out into the world, are we just going to get it, be just as sick and at risk? If so, maybe it is better to get earlier, get it over with and move on.... |
We are not a week away. We are 6-8 weeks out. |
Please explain why you think this/what is your source. |
Glad I'm not the only one : ) I'm obsessed with watching the numbers. Maybe it's more my love of math and numbers than fear |
According to this article her plan was to up funding for the CDC and the NIH by $100 billion (likely over ten years--hard to tell because the actual plan is no longer available on her website), mostly to fund a vaccine. As we know, a vaccine takes a really long time because of the testing required. No mention of testing or any other response in her plan, except long-term increase of funding for the two agencies. Also an implication this could all wait until she was elected. “Like so much else, Trump’s approach to keeping us safe from disease outbreaks is a mess,” she said on her website. “But when he’s gone, we can fix it.” Both parties have done badly on this. But no worse than in Europe, and we are in a position to move in full force to prevent an Italy because the China travel ban put us behind their curves. |
Because of doublings starting at 200. |
hm what kind of plan is this? this is just generic more money universal Coverafe stuff. which I support but has nothing to do with covid. none of this would solve the issue with testing, none of it would make people take it seriously. never does she mention social distancing, amping mask and respirator productions, problems with overreliance on supply lines from China. the only thing where trump could have helped is taking this more seriously earlier and ordering more closures instead of focusing on the stock market. there is zero evidence that any of Democrats were taking this seriously until very recently either. |

South Africa: President Ramaphosa declares a “National State of Disaster”:
- a ban is imposed on travel from and to Iran, South Korea, United Kingdom, USA, Germany, Italy and China - all travellers who have entered South Africa from high-risk countries since mid-February will be required to present themselves for testing - travellers from medium-risk countries (such as Portugal, Hong Kong and Singapore) will be required to undergo high intensity screening - schools will close - gatherings of more than 100 people are prohibited “Never before in the history of our democracy has our country been confronted with such a severe situation” – President Cyril Ramaphosa [source] This is what I think everyone needs to do - especially with travellers and testing |
Warren’s plan was more than a month ahead of Trump’s much weaker plan, which is a huge amount of time dealing with a pandemic. Warren would have put the public health experts in charge of the planning and execution from the beginning instead of pretending it was a hoax. That is a short article in the NY Post, not the actual detailed plan, and she kept adding to the plan all through February as additional failures were exposed. In January she probably believed that we would have testing capacity in public health agencies because that dysfunction had not yet been exposed. |
Hard to verify--her plans no longer on her website. |

warren's plan is not a plan at all for covid19 - it's just a generic pandemic plan. nothing. what trump did is also nothing, we agree there. but trump is not personally running this. he can't make testing happen. |
| China has only 20 new (tested) cases as of today, that's encouraging. |
The entire country is still on lockdown (don't believe when they say it's only Hubei province, it's the whole country). |
