| I read online that some doctors apparently counsel their patients to wait a cycle before TTC after an HSG. Mine said it was fine to try right after the HSG. Has anyone else on here asked their doctor? I don't know if it's just coincidence, but a number of anecdotal accounts I've read online have been from women who did get pregnant the same cycle BUT then went on to have miscarriages. I don't know if anyone has really done a study to determine how it affects miscarriage rates, given the radiation. |
| Yikes - I hadn't heard of that but will now ask my doctor. I had an HSG last month and recently found out I'm pregnant .... fingers crossed. |
By the way, my doctor (at Shady Grove) advised it was completely fine. They just don't want you to be pregnant BEFORE the HSG due to the radiation. I do think HSG's are more common amongst women with fertility issues - so this could also be a reason for miscarriage, not the HSG itself..... but I haven't heard anything about rates being higher post-HSG in the first place. I say go for it if you're comfortabe - apparently it gives your tubes a good "cleaning" and you're more fertile for a few month after. Worked for us

| I'm scheduled for HSG next week and my dr advised me not to get pregnant this month either. He said it is because of the dye and radiation. I have heard of many people getting pregnant after the test as well, but I thought it was the next cycle. |
| my doctor said an HSG can be more than just diagnostic -- it can be an aid to get pregnant. (she did have a word for it, but i forget what it was.) as mentioned above, i think it gives the tubes a good cleaning. |
| My friend and I both had the HSG after years of TTC. Neither of us had ever been pregnant before. We both conceived that cycle. We both had a m/c at 10.5 weeks. |
|
a friend of mine also got pregnant right after her HSG and had a m.c at 4months....
then a few months later conceived again and now has two babies.... I've had two HSG's and no success!!! Friend and I are both in late 20's and friend was TTC for 1.5yrs as have I. |
| I got pregnant the cycle of my hag and also had a mc at 6 weeks. Crazy. |
| My doctor said to definitely try after the HSG because even if there isn't a blockage, the HSG "cleans the pipes". My HSG baby is now 5. |

Please search this forum -- there are SO MANY account of people who have gotten pregnant right after an HSG and gone on to have healthy, term pregnancies. It's uncanny. I am one of those people....my son is now 2 and another on the way. I just happened to see this post in the "recent topics" but I remember searching for it after my HSG and finding one thread on here in particular that was encouraging as far as it's more than fine -- and my doctor also said totally fine.

| I have been second guess ttc right after my HSG I conceived right after the test and miscaried at 8 weeks i keep asking if the test might have caused this... All the doctors have said no but I keep thinking it might have I was told to wait 48 hours after the test which I did... I wish there was more research on this and i wish I just waited till my next cycle... I'm heart broken right now |
| I got pg the month of my first hsg 18 months ago and miscarried at 6 weeks. Nothing since. |
| This is very interesting. I'm going to Kaiser for a second confirmatory HSG and they advised no unprotected sex before the HSG. I'd never heard that before. They said after no problem but none before. In reading this I get it. I wonder if the dye and radiation damage any sperm in you which could go on and fertilize an egg since they live for 3-5 days? Granted I would have thought the HSG would have washed any sperm out? |
I think it's bc if you were pregnant then this would cause a miscarriage. Basically, the dye would sweep everything away. That's also why my RE wanted it done early in my cycle way before ovulation and also made me take an HPT just before the procedure. |
