Because it was given as a reason for the insistence on delaying her hearing--i.e. instead of Monday, it had to be Thursday in order for her to have time to get there. They implied that she would be driving. |
Or they just didn't think he was a good candidate. As did many church groups, President Ford, Justice Stevens, thousands of lawyers, his own former clerks, his classmates, etc. Who exactly came out as strong supporters for BK? |
Strong supporter: Bush, a fraternity brother. Strong supporter: people who think "boys will be boys" |
This has been lost in the debate about Dr. Ford's allegations. There were plenty of reasons for most fair minded people to oppose K's nomination. He had a long POLITICAL career before he became a judge. He was staff secretary for George W. Bush, he was a key aide to Ken Starr during the Clinton impeachment proceedings and is known to have pushed for a prurient and salacious line of questioning. Kavanaugh was involved in Memogate where Republican IT staff hacked and stole emails from Democrats on the Judiciary Committee and he lied about it during the hearings. In fact he lied about lots of big things and small things (drinking etc.) under oath and that in and of itself should have been disqualifying for a SC nominee. I would not have been happy but I would have fine with the President nominating a Scalia or Gorsuch - conservative but non partisan. Kavanaugh is obviously not cut from the same cloth and his prepared remarks to the Judiciary committee on Thursday Sept 29th where he railed against a vast left wing conspiracy and promised retribution and then proceeded to dismiss or insult Democratic senators clearly demonstrated he is not fit for the SC. |
Pretty much just DT and his circle jerk compadres. |
He also thanked Joe Manchin. I guess you missed that. |
We live in hyperpartisan times. But Trump is the first President to nominate off a preapproved list of people guaranteed to make conservative rulings. So Dems had plenty of time to check them all out and decide. Still, if he had picked somebody else off the list, that person would have passed with some Democratic votes, like Gorsuch did. If he had gone off list, he could have gotten a lot of Democratic votes. |
Joe Manchin is from West Virginia -- Coal Country -- where coal is an energy source the global warming whiners have declared war against, destroying the jobs and livelihood of coal miners. Sweet revenge against the climate change doomsayers. However, it wasn't just Obama's hateful anti-coal policies which Hillary would have doubled-down on that is hurting coal, it is the cheapness of Natural Gas and alternative energy sources being refined and developed that also hurts coal. But for now, the coal miners can blame the Democrats for strangling coal mining jobs which means more votes for Republicans. Fine with me! |
Fracking destroyed the economics of coal, not Democrats. But you're too disingenuous to admit that. |
Because Democrats value the supreme court and its integrity and cannot put someone on the court that they believe committed perjury (more than once). |
Well, provided that Democrats understands what perjury is, and more importantly, what "is" is. |
Let’s not forget about his shady finances.

Collins has done so much for the state of Maine. She is a true moderate. She came out against Trump when he was running for President. She voted no on the repeal of Obamacare. She opposed DeVos and Pruitt for Cabinet positions. We need more people like Collins in both parties. |
Kavanaugh 1. Environment 0.
Last year, Kavanaugh wrote a 2-1 opinion saying the EPA had no power to regulate the potent greenhouse gas, HFCs. Today, Kavanaugh’s first day on the SCOTUS bench, SCOTUS turns down environmental orgs’ appeal, letting his decision stand. |
So he was in 7-figure debt, the source of the down payment is unknown, and the house and mortgage were totally unaffordable? Genuine question: why should there be mystery if the senior Kavanaughs are paying for everything? Or did so? He is their only child, moved close, and gave them two grandkids. |
