leaving |
There is movement into and out of all of those clubs, with the exception of VDA. I haven't heard anyone going to VDA, but a lot of the former DA players leaving. |
|
I know it won't happen...but Mclean really should partner with Spirit.
Leave BRYC and Loudoun as ECNL options |
| ^^^^What is the rationale for that option? |
Because the kids in the program could benefit through the partnership. Put A team in DA. Put B team in ECNL. Switch players if need be / or if kids want to opt out of one option over the other. Instead, it becomes a power struggle for talent and neither club will fully win out causing weaker teams. |
VDA is isolated. Not many people want to drive to Woodbridge for practice twice a weak. |
| ^week..duh |
Except for the fact that ECNL would require McLean to chose one or the other. The Dual DA/ECNL clubs are being forced to make a choice this year between the two leagues. m |
Mclean is sending its "B" team in ages above U12 to CCL2 next year - they can't retain enough talent to compete in CCL on their 2nd team, let alone ECNL. |
Because McLean will likely continue to lose talent to Spirit, being a DA option so close by. By partnering, they can become part of the process, even benefit from the partnership. As it stands, they are fighting a losing battle. Much like Loudoun is with FCV. Sorry Loudoun friends, I know this will spark some pain and open old wounds. Even with all this talk of high school ball, I know of girls who are NOT playing high school ball because they want to train in preparation for college. The same girls that will opt out even while in the ECNL would be more than happy to have a spring program in a DA. The main reason the older girls don't move as much is the risk of the unknown. |
Yep I heard that. I heard kids are looking around as well. |
| Eliteness requires driving to the Carolinas. Complaining about expense, time, and travel is not elite. Your daughter could have been elite if she just had better parents. |
I actually think going north toward NJ and NY leads to better competition than going south to Carolinas, but I agree with your main point. |
My daughter is elite because she has an elite dad, with elite genes, with an elite wife, with elite friends, who went to elite colleges and have elite jobs. What say you?

McLean's issue is the same as all of the others, it is geographically limited.
Each Northern Virginia club is insular and no one wants to merge or combine or otherwise grow out of its area so as to properly support an actual soccer developmental pyramid. McLean was an early Boy's DA club and was doing decently because they had the support/backing/urging of the Reimers family. The problem was the whole club didn't support DA, especially when non McLean players started to make the DA team. Boys DA lost overall club support and USSF pulled the plug on them. My understanding was there was some urging on behalf of the federation for them to merge their DA program with Arlington and maybe another club or two, but egos and the newly formed CCL got in the way. We are seeing that now on the girls side with the clubs trying to maintain their historic ID and geographic ties, yet compete for the same playerpool. |
