Yes, I believe so.

A better answer is no

MLS1 will go SY, but cheaters can still use biobanding to continue to play down to stay in MLS1.

When MLS Next teams use biobanding as a way to play down for wins then sure I agree its cheating.

But if you haven't noticed MLS N has tried hiding younger player scores in multiple ways. The reason they're doing this is because MLS N is setup for identifying and developing talent so they can play professionally. In this environment biobanding down isnt a good thing. Its a last resort for players about to be dropped.

Leagues like ECNL and GA and whatever are setup for getting players into college. In this environment playing down cant be accepted because recruiters are only looking at players for 1-2 years. Also when they're recruiting the first thing they want to know is which year will this player graduate. After this is established they'll look at other attributes and rank the player accordingly.

The person thats so passionate about playing down is likely a private school parent that bought into the nonsense that they can hold their kid back in school so they can be the biggest and oldest. Surpirse! Soccer doesnt work that way. Go find a different sport. Oh and btw private schools want you to regrade your kid because they make and extra year or two of tuition this way. Why find more students when you can just make the current students stay in school longer.

No one wants kids to be a reclass. We are just calling you out for thinking an Aug kid is playing down.

Also you don’t know what you’re talking about my daughter goes to private school and not 1 girl she went to school with from kindergarten to now 9th grade is held back actually it’s much more common for girls to start school early. So they are young for their grade. Will be 16 to start their senior year.

Go outside and breath some fresh air. The grad year monster isn’t real. You’re going to be okay.

It's funny you write in such absolutes.

You think you know everything but whatever you write shows how close minded and incorrect you are.

Some people will just have to learn the hard way that theyre not wanted. For you it will happen at tryouts next season.

The chance for biobanding players to go pro is 0%. And they steal game time from the younger players who want to develop in their own age group.

It is just morally wrong, and labeling them as cheaters is appropriate.

Our team is playing the new MLS Next Academy U14 (2012).

Some of our rivals are using 2011 players (tall and big, so bio banding does not apply).

We know those players because they are of the same city area (Milwaukee, WI).

Is it allowed at MLS Next Academy to play down?

Yes. Biobanding is designed to be based on size compared to peers but it’s not enforced and teams bioband for whatever reason they want. In our experience the age ranges at mls academies are pretty fluid and kids will float back and forth. Most commonly up but can also bioband down. U14 doesn’t report wins/losses either.

What you dont understand because you're a littles parent or playing on a team with no chance of being recruited to play in college is that playing down a grade is a trap. Choosing to play down for wins is not goid you think you're doing some great thing but you're not. Adversity and being challenged are what develops a player. The longer Aug birthdays play down the harder it will be to play on a team with players their age. Eventually you'll be forced to do something. Because you chose to play down what you'll do is hold your kid back in school. This is because its easier and it validates your stupid decisions. Leagues and clubs dont want to be the reason why children are held back in school this is why the top clubs wont let Aug players play down a grade. Since you are hard headed I'm sure you'll shop around and find some kind of land of misfit toys team to play on and they'll be terrible. Instead of wasting all your time trying to play down just play on the B team with players your kids grade. Then work your way to the A team. This is the correct pathway.

I don't understand why this poster has a problem with this for the August players but not for any other September - December birthdays who are in this situation due to their local school cut-offs. Do you think a November player in a state with a 12/1 school cut-off should not play in their assigned 8/1-7/31 age grouping of 12 months, even if it's mostly with kids who are in the younger grade? It would be unreasonable to expect them to play up, when their are 3 months of kids OLDER than them within their assigned age-division.

I would think playing at the appropriate level (A, B, C team, whatever) within their assigned age group is the best course for playing in the right level for them, particularly as a ULittle looking for development. If they are a strong player, at young ages they will benefit from all the boosts of an A team, often with better coaching, more practices, and more committed teammates. If recruiting/college becomes important to them at older ages, they can then work to move to their grade-level team at the appropriate time (a move that should be less daunting at older ages, since the difference in age lessens over time), or heck, they could choose to take a gap year between high school and college to be on the right recruiting cycle for their Seasonal Year age group.

Who knows, it's up to them. They can also choose to play up with their grade. The ability to choose what fits them best is wonderful.

But playing in their assigned age group, whether August, September, November, whatever, is not "playing down for wins." It's leveling within the appropriate age group for development.

This is just nonsense word salad. Aug players will play their correct age group just like Jan players do now. It will be no different. It was not different before (pre 2016), why would it suddenly change now? Every top club will try and collect as many early fall birthdays as possible for each age group. No one is gonna give a shit about what you’re saying here.

When top clubs publish their age groupings for tryouts in the spring they will all be 8/1-7/31.

I know you can’t stop posting for some reason, and clearly you have some sort of internal issue going on, but take a break. Move on to a different argument or something. Find a different angle to cry about. This is getting old.

No, just like back in 2016 Aug birthdays will be told to play on a team with players their grade not on the team with players a grade below them.

For the exact reasons PP listed.

Dude, I know this is you. Just stop. Aug birthdays played in their SY grouping back then. I know because I was there and coached. No one, at any large club, cared what grade a player was in. They only cared if they were eligible for an age group. That’s it. We didn’t even collect what grade players were in!

The grad monster is a figment of your imagination. Just like the villainous August girl that went to school on time is your bogeyman.

FFS if the birthdate falls within the age range it is not playing down. Clubs will not force anyone to play in an age group outside of what their birthdate is. Telling all August players you must play up, are you also going around today telling all January birthdays they should be playing up an age group? Didn't think so.

Oh so now you're larping as a coach.

I was there as well and top teams would not let players play down a grade. This is because players and teams are an investment. It takes time to develop a winning club. Shortcuts like playing down dont work long term.

Sorry all- I’m still not seeing a concrete response here, I apologize if this has been settled. Are boys moving to the SY cutoff next year too? ECNL yes? Maybe? MLSNEXT yes/no/undecided?
Does anyone actually know or is it still just speculation?
Thanks
