30+ players practicing together for the next several months will bring a lot of drama. I'm not sure how the coach can handle that to ensure an effective training session.

Hahahaha....

And you think coaches on top teams are going to roster aug birthdays that are a grade older in school. Nope, theyve got 30 options that arent playing down.

Exactly, here's how the Aug birthday kids tryouts will go.

Hi there what was your name? And what is your birthday? Ok I see that your birthday is in Aug, what grade are you in? Ok your grades tryouts are tomorrow.

Whats that? Your mom wants you to play on this team? Ok we want to be accommodating for everyeone. What I'd like you to do is put on this helmet and go to field 4 with all the other "special" players.

Hahaha so true 👍

Playing down is for losers. Everyone should play in their correct age group. When you cannot, you are a loser in most players' opinions.

Playing down is for losers. Unfortunately theres a keyboard warrior defending it. It wont matter, clubs wont let crazy parents embarrass their B team kid by letting them play down a grade on the lower level A team.

What do you mean by playing down?
Explain who’s playing down next year if Aug 2011 to July 2012 is new age group?
MLSN is the only league that allows playing “down” because of biobanding.

Under SY the eligibility window is from 8/1-7/31. If your school district starts 9/1 this means Aug birthday players can play with their grade in school or they can play on a team a grade down.

Most normal people would put their kid on a team with players their grade. Losers that found a loophole will play their kid on the team thats a grade younger. This is called playing down for wins.

The problem with doing this is if you ever want recruiters to take your kid seriously they'll need to play on a team with players their grade when they get older. So why waste everyone's time playing down.

If your Aug birthday kid isn't good enough to play on the A team with players their grade. Have some decency and play on the B team with players their age. Don't steal minutes from some other kid thats a grade below yours.
Players getting to choose to play up is very rare. Name an instance where a club forced a player to play up above their age group or stop complaining. Teams put players on clubs.

Top 20 nationally team.

Our club will let currently trapped players do whatever they want. Maybe they'll choose for the youngers but not the olders.

Just going to give you the facts ECNL has already had a meeting about this and unless a kid is exceptional they want all kids moved into their new age groups to help get this process started
Starting Fall 26.

They will allow kids to play up however they do not want clubs doing what you’re saying. And keeping large groups up and keeping Birth year teams together.

Your club is just keeping face for now so parents think they have nothing to worry about.

You’ll see what I’m talking about after the tryout window is over and you see a bunch of new faces on the team.

No this will not be the case with olders.

You’re living in a fantasy the most recruited age group is u17 so all the kids who are currently U17 but will also be eligible next year to play u17 again will want that string recruitment year again and attend better national events they will not go up to U19 which is the year where everyone puts it in cruise control.

Just this alone will have a domino effect that will push everyone else down so kids can stay on top teams.

Recruiting at u17 started with initial correspondence at u14.

Players dont want to change teams because this might affect anything they have in process with college coaches.

But you know everything.

As players get older it definitely becomes more about me then thee. If parents and a player have not received a scholarship yet they will do whatever’s best for them.

Even at ECNL nationals and showcases you see tons of players play for the highlight reel rather than the simple pass because they want that wow factor to put on film or catch a coaches attention.

And I don’t know everything just more than you obviously.

Change can be scary. Read the cheese movers to calm your nerves. Players don't want to get cut either but it happens every year

There’s drastically less college coaches if any at all. Been to about a dozen ECNL showcases I don’t think I’ve ever seen a college watch U14.

Players will definitely change teams of it gives them a better opportunity to be recruited.

Also a lot of this has to do with the market you’re in if you’re the one ECNL team in your area probably less movement then there will be in an area like the surrounding LA area where there so much talent and ECNL clubs to choose from.

MLS1 will go SY, but cheaters can still use biobanding to continue to play down to stay in MLS1.

What this will do is force ECNL to allow GY for showcases to get more college coaches to their showcases.

Because MLSN will bioband all the misaligned players in the name of development.

When MLS Next teams use biobanding as a way to play down for wins then sure I agree its cheating.

But if you haven't noticed MLS N has tried hiding younger player scores in multiple ways. The reason they're doing this is because MLS N is setup for identifying and developing talent so they can play professionally. In this environment biobanding down isnt a good thing. Its a last resort for players about to be dropped.

Leagues like ECNL and GA and whatever are setup for getting players into college. In this environment playing down cant be accepted because recruiters are only looking at players for 1-2 years. Also when they're recruiting the first thing they want to know is which year will this player graduate. After this is established they'll look at other attributes and rank the player accordingly.

The person thats so passionate about playing down is likely a private school parent that bought into the nonsense that they can hold their kid back in school so they can be the biggest and oldest. Surpirse! Soccer doesnt work that way. Go find a different sport. Oh and btw private schools want you to regrade your kid because they make and extra year or two of tuition this way. Why find more students when you can just make the current students stay in school longer.

Love it! Will be about all the BY people in the beginning living in denial and lashing out at people that SY is stupid idea and ECNL can’t do this. Then slowly realizing this is happening and realizing the walls are closing in as more and more leagues start to change and the BY people dig in and say GA and MLSN won’t change and then watch them realize as they both announce 8/1.

To then turn around and say now all Aug to Dec kids are now cheaters and everyone should be playing up and anyone who doesn’t is a loser. All while their Jan to July kids are not playing up.

The movie will be a great emotional comedy.

No one wants kids to be a reclass. We are just calling you out for thinking an Aug kid is playing down.

Also you don’t know what you’re talking about my daughter goes to private school and not 1 girl she went to school with from kindergarten to now 9th grade is held back actually it’s much more common for girls to start school early. So they are young for their grade. Will be 16 to start their senior year.

Go outside and breath some fresh air. The grad year monster isn’t real. You’re going to be okay.
