+10000 Not a single college coach or anyone other than the parent cares how good they are for at least 5 more years. Might wanna focus on development and not club/league. Find a good coach and fun teammates and parents you can tolerate. |
Same ignorance from the Clubs! HS Soccer IS an experience that most HS Soccer players look forward to. For a club to disregard this and just think of "what gets you into college" is why we have lots of kids quit prematurely! |
Kids care. Your club coach doesn’t, you as a parent probably don’t care but kids care and kids are the players. Adults are ruining the sport landscape. |
Right. I am very pro-HS soccer, but I do have some sympathy for the clubs for the sh!t timing (ID sessions and Jeff. Cup and other spring tournaments and showcases happening just as the HS season is getting started in NOVA). I don't know when else they can hold spring ID sessions that they won't have conflicts. The denigration of HS soccer, from parents and some club coaches alike, does drive me more than a little batty. Reeks of the "futbol is life" "beautiful game" snobbery that turns so many of us off. |
But in May 2023, they were planning to extend it another year. So what changed? |

In terms of HS sports, I get it depends on where you play. Our experience has been bad coaching and crappy team dynamics. Unless you are one of the coaches favorites, you don’t get play time. Guess club can be similar but we haven’t had that issue in club. Only HS. |
It's just calling it like it is. Your interpretation of the facts is what makes you batty. |
| This thread has gone completely off the rails. |
I agree with the timing of Jeff Cup for older age groups. Why not have the showcase during the first two weeks and then the younger kids in the last two weeks. Are there other major showcases conflicting with the first two weeks? |
A question -- why do you say most of these so called elite players will never play in college? Almost every ECNL girl plays in college if they want to. From top and mid programs. |
Other than GA Champions Cup and ECNL Florida Spring? Not sure. But those have been the weekends for Jeff Cup forever, why would they change? |
There is a difference for boys vs girls so we should be more specific. Girls ECNL get recruited at a high percentage because of # or programs and less external competition. Only some % actually get significant playing time or play 4 years. That is typical for all sports. For Boys ECNL it's virtually impossible to get recruited to top D1 program. They prefer MLS next, internationals or transfer players. Most end up at D3 if they can afford it. |
| Why did the penny colors matter at the tryout? |
| All ID sessions are during this week? wtf are we talking about HS for? Every club's ID ECNL sessions are this week lmfao |
