Wait what’s going on here??? This woman everyone said was okay acting victim and a racist thief was actually really the victim, she rented the bike and the kids were messing with her and some jerks are still calling her a Karen and running her life???? That’s awful!

I do think she will be able to work again, for the same hospital even.

But I also think that for a long time, she will wonder to herself if any patient or colleague she encounters believes her to be a racist and a thief. And she'll never know if someone is responding to her on the basis of her actual actions, or based on a belief of who she is based on lies that were posted about her online.

Reputation is tricky like that. I do think the people who spread lies and misinformation in ways that damaged this woman's reputation unfairly should be held responsible. It should not be considered a small thing to do this because it can damage a person for a long time.

Leaving your home temporarily doesn't equal your life being ruined. That is dramatic to the extreme. I'm sure she's stressed out, no doubt. Having your arms and legs blown off in combat would ruin your life. Looking bad in a video, not exactly.

What this incident is, is the beginning of accountability for online pitchfork mobs. It's not just a woman versus four men--it's anybody who's had their reputation trashed by false accusations across the internet. We all knew the online mobs would be held accountable at some point, it was just a question of when. This case, where right and wrong now seem pretty cut and dried, is a great opportunity.

And if this incident gets people to start questioning the Karen slur, that's a great outcome too.
