Oh, good grief -- isn't there enough evidence of wrong doing? Just STOP.

Please let's not start creating conspiracy theories in this case, because all that will do is detract from the facts.

Bringing conspiracy theories into play will ensure that the whole thing becomes a complete circus, and she'll never get justice.

As if you or anyone else on this thread is doing anything that would contribute to the PA getting justice (whatever that is).

People like PP keeping the drum beat going are the reason why the fundraiser is over $111,000. Financial justice. And the Twitter morons are outraged by this. They can't stand the fact that the PA had the audacity to cry for help in the face of harassment and now she's getting paid. They consider crying for help, weaponizing her whiteness, as if she had any other weapons at her disposal. If people don't want women to "weaponize" themselves in self defense, then would be harassers and abusers should consider just leaving them alone so that they don't have to.

BS like this happens all the time. Most people don't go around suing people whenever they get into an argument. It's just not worth it. And nobody is reading DCUM and donating money because something rubbed them the wrong way. They are idiots if they do.

Do you actually think that you're helping her case?

This was recorded and posted on the internet. The woman had to go into hiding. This is not someone getting “rubbed the wrong way.” This is someone’s life getting ruined. I know you don’t GAF, but I do.

DP. People get death threats all the time on the internet.

It's a huge stretch to say that her life is ruined and she has to go into hiding.

Lol? It’s not a stretch, it’s a fact. Her lawyer has disclosed she left her home due to the harm caused by this incident and the media reporting on it.

Leaving your home temporarily doesn't equal your life being ruined. That is dramatic to the extreme. I'm sure she's stressed out, no doubt. Having your arms and legs blown off in combat would ruin your life. Looking bad in a video, not exactly.

You’re…not bright. And an a$$hole to boot. Well done!

Too bad you are a spoiled American who has never experienced any type of adversity. If you did, you would accept this incident for what it actually is.

So when you said she didn’t have to go into hiding, what you meant was, she didn’t have her limbs blown off. Got it.

Did you donate to the defense fund?

Do u also get involved in other cases involving death threats and internet mob justice...you know, like the Officer involved in the Ferguson shooting.

Stop minimizing what happened to her. Death threats are not normal and shouldn't be considered par of rat course.

Unfortunately it's a fact due to the anonymity of the internet. Sadly, it is kind of normal.

It's not normal and it's not ok. And, I hope she goes after all those social media and other media outlets that published it without the full story. Her life is ruined even if she's found innocent.

She lost her income, had to flee and pay for housing and has attorney fees. She isn't making much money off this. It could be months before she could return to work and at that point, the baby will be here.

I now think she's nuts to have engaged with them, and that they are nuts for messing with a pregnant woman.

Bottom line, normal misunderstandings start and end with comparing notes/info/exchanging pleasantries/apology. When you see you are dealing with a crazy person- OR a setup situation, you disengage and give the crazy person what they want.

I NEVER would have engaged with someone (especially a group) like this when pregnant- but I also wouldn't have been trying to use a shared bike app on those streets while pregnant so her risk tolerance is shocking to me- though she does not deserve outfall from this- at least with the info we have now. Is this group of people identified yet and if not why not?

Receipts tell the story, as far as I am concerned.

You are engaging in a classic case of victim blaming. Whatever happened to women standing up for themselves? They should just cower and/or walk away?

I wish we still lived in a world where that was a safe option. I am raising all my kids to not engage with aggressive behaviour and to get some distance between themselves and the perpetrator. Things don't just escalate into cranky verbal arguments these days, but much worse. Not worth it. Happy to let other people 'win', cower and walk away alive in situations like this.

+1 Too many people today are raised to think that they can do just about anything (or not do anything) with no consequences. They display aggression and threaten others with words or force and have hair trigger tempers. Just walk away. Ignore. Let those folks be. Your reputation and life aren't worth "getting back" at anyone.

For many people there are no consequences to their actions and that's a big part of it.

As it should be. There is absolutely no need to ruin more lives over a misunderstanding. One person being treated this way is too many.

And if this wasn't a misunderstanding, but a deliberate effort to find a white woman to harass (and cause the internet to also harass) as an exercise in "punching up" (a.k.a. channeling rage upon the head of a convenient scapegoat)? Still ok for these guys to face zero consequences, and for others to know they can continue to target women without censure?

Did you not see the post that was before yours? 🤨

Bringin this forward from earlier in the thread.

Factual information as presented by her lawyer in the interview I listened to yesterday. I am using his terminology and language.

The lawyer says it was "simple" situation. The specific bike was unattended and so she mounted the bike and then started to pay for the bike and that as she was doing this, individuals were telling her that they had paid for that bike and that this was their bike. She was tired and just wanted to go home. She finished paying and then unlocked it and rolled it back and one of the individuals pulled it back into the dock and that is when the video starts.

Neither the lawyer nor his client felt this was anything other than a misunderstanding. The client does not want an investigation or charges and according to the lawyer his client "wishes them the best" as this was just a "mistake, a misunderstanding" and she doesn't want any of the same "scrutiny or misery" that has been applied to her to go towards these young men (and he re-emphasized that these were ‘young’ men).

Her lawyer has said they are going after media sources that fanned the flames and led to the witchhunt of her and her family. The woman is currently in hiding with her family due to the death threats and doxxing that took place.

The lawyer said his client and her legal team have 3 goals

1) clear her name
2) ensure her employer exonerates her and there are no employment related effects
3) go after media who made this a disaster (his word) and he mentioned sources that used the words their and racist

But they should be held responsible. To the extent the law provides as well as financially in civil trial. People like this should be made an example of.
They have shown poor judgement and probably don’t have much to contribute to
Society. So why not punish them and make them pay what she may loose in income now over her lifetime.
Just like child support we need a stupid tax on these guys. Their wages (if any) can be garnished for a very long time to
Offset the harm they caused.
