What do your kids drink with dinner?

Anonymous
Mine have Capri Suns at lunch and they don't want water or milk at dinner. My daughter used to drink sparkling Juicy Juice, but now they've discontinued it. My husband and I drink soda and obviously I don't want them drinking that. Is there a "healthy" juice or flavored water that your kids like with meals?

Milk. Juice is almost pure sugar and flavored water is just chemicals.

My kids both drink milk but I have been lucky so far since they are young, 5 & 3.
I am not anti-juice completely since my parents did that and it backfired big time since I am a total sugar junkie. However, I do have a rule that they can only drink milk with dinner. We also drink milk (DH drinks bubbly water) at dinner and convince them that's how you get big muscles-it's working for now.
We only buy juice though when we are having people (playdate, cookout, etc). It's hard at 1st but they wean off the juice after a while.
You really should consider cutting out the soda yourselves since they will most likely do what you do when they are older. DH did this when we bought a sodastream machine but we only use it for bubbly water (sometimes with lemon lime essence-not the soda)

Milk or water with meals unless we are out at a restaurant (2 times a month) or occasionally OJ with breakfast.
I give juice boxes with snacks at the park or something.

Milk or water.

"they don't want milk or water". Who is in charge in your house? And you two should stop drinking soda too - you aren't teenagers.

Mine usually only get water or milk. Dentist and pediatrician both recommend no juice. When we have juice (once every 2-3 months), I serve 1/4 juice mixed with 3/4 water.

For you, how about splitting the Capri Sun in half (part at lunch and the other half for dinner) and using water as the other half? That way, your kids won't get any more sugar and their taste for sugary drinks will lessen. Over time, you can probably even phase out the juice altogether.

FWIW, my DH is a soda drinker and my kids have never asked to try (they're 6 and 4).

2yr old drinks water. She rarely drinks milk and the juice we keep in the house is "Daddy's juice". It's orange juice but she doesn't see me drink it and we've never offered it to her, so she doesn't even know that's an option.

My boys are 7 and both drink milk with breakfast and dinner. Lunch is at school, I send them water. At times when we have company, I will give them Sprite or sparkling apple cidar.

I think with kids it's mostly what they see the parents drink. I drink water all day long

Water. Two 7 year olds.

Water for just about all meals. OJ occasionally with breakfast. Cranberry juice or apple juice occasionally with snack. No milk.
