Bethesda Soccer On Way Down

It's hard to take this post seriously. BSC has 40+ teams on the Boys side and you've watched them all? All the teams are horrible? Some explanation is warranted to throw out a bomb like that or it has zero credibility.

Is BSC losing ecnl or nah?

Not OP but I think they are referring to the lack of soccer being played not the technical and individual abilities of players. If that's the case could not agree more; there is very little difference in gameplay from ODP high level and MLSN/ECNL. The noticeable difference with MLSN to everyone else are the physical qualities, which mean little if you have two anvils for feet, which is what I see from far too many MLSN players hence the crappy soccer on display

I agree that American soccer has struggled with the problem of being too athletic/fast without the requisite skill level to overcome the physical side. But, that’s been true… forever? I don’t see it as a BSC or MLSN issue exclusively. Unless you’re saying you think the technical level of ECNL is higher than MLSN?

BSC develops technical players that doesn't mean they play good soccer. Winning is too important in the US that's the problem. Physical monsters are shortcuts for coaches who know players don't have the technical chops, or winning takes the cake like at BSC and then you get these merry go round rants

BSC has a fundamental issue. They do stress technical soccer more than a SYC. However, they focus too heavily on winning when making decisions in reality.

It has really depended on the coach I have seen. Some of the 1st teams have played beautiful soccer. Some not so much. That is why I am so puzzled for the SM firing. Promote him to some technical training position and have him teach the other coaches the technical side so that entire organization of coaches have that foundation. Don't let him go because he has standards and not the best bedside manner.

The landscape has changed. When BSC reigned, many of these other clubs did not exist. The new facility is great. The coaching our kids are receiving is not so great and we are on a 1st team. I won't do another year of treading water so I hope they make some changes and understand that coaching matters.

go watch the so called first teams...then go watch the 2nd teams then post what you see. go to their practices...see what they work on. watch their passing. watch their movement. there are exceptions to the rule but as a team, it's pretty bad soccer.

I have seen a lot of the younger boys teams, U8-U12. There is no doubt a wide range, even amongst the first teams; some much stronger than others. There is typically a pretty big drop-off with the second teams but isn't that to be expected? I think the question about quality of soccer is relative to what? I don't see SYC or any team in the DMV that is playing at a skill level way above BSC. Are you comparing them to other regions in the US, countries?

Ok. So what clubs in the DMV have good soccer?

It's so coach dependent. There are strong coaches that develop good soccer players (and win in the process, but without winning being the end goal) at many clubs in this area. Everyone should look at teams and coaches specifically instead of finding the right overall club or badge. There are clubs with the badge that have poorly performing teams, and there are clubs without the badge that have teams that are very competitive.

This sounds like DP. I kicked that tire. Joysticks kids and a poor disposition. Poor man’s VC who is a good coach with a questionable temperament.

Paragon is defunct.

Why wouldn’t you name the coach and/or club to allow parents to kick the tires?

I wouldn't come to BSC for a specific coach. For better or worse, your child will only have the same coach for one, maybe two years.

Thats the word on the street. They have to make a choice.

No explanation why they would be forced into choosing. It's not in ECNL's interest either, will just push the girls to GA. I'd be shocked if BSC left MLSN to keep the girls in ECNL.
