It’s real. I have seen it. On TikTok. From a former 07 player now in college. Not sure if SC though. British accent. |
It's public now, BSC is staying calendar birth year on the Boys side. They published U7-U11 are going to be calendar year, not school year. Everyone saying otherwise was simply wrong. If they're doing it at the youngest age groups the older ones will surely be the same. I agree with the decision, keep it consistent with MLSNext and non MLSNext HD teams will have the added advantage of getting to play against older kids. There's no reason to have kids jumping from team to team within the club based on their birthday, league, rosters on top teams stick together, etc. https://www.bethesdasoccer.org/teams/boys-tryouts/ These age groups for next year, 2026-27, will be calendar year: U7 (2020) U8 (2019) U9 (2018) U10 (2017) U11 (2016) |
Interesting. Every team other than the first team will get smoked since they will be drastically younger per age group. Parents will need to understand the priority of development here and get used to not winning as much. |
I don't know if teams having kids that 3-4 months older will be a huge advantage? The top teams in each age group will have the same issue until U13. |
| I think they posted this incorrectly - meaning calendar year - as in SCHOOL calendar year! |
Look at every other website and then look at BSC. Others give the dates. BSC gives the birth year. While the original poster did jump the gun with the information, this does give a clear indication of their trajectory if they posted this information. I would be shocked if change to 9/1 to 8/31 at this point. We have not heard anything from BSC and we are with the club. I actually like it because it is so early to have these discussions. The Q4’s on our team (Aug-Dec) have heard nothing either but that is BSC operating as normal. Plan accordingly and don’t expect special exceptions no matter how good your kid is. |
Not sure how I jumped the gun? It was published on the club web-site and no, they didn't post in incorrectly - that's a huge leap with no evidence. |

YDP Parents,
Just wanted to clarify the Age Group Shift question for next year and our plan. Currently we are grouped by calendar birth year based on birth date from Jan. 1 to December 31. The new system beginning in 2026-27 that was proposed for youth soccer is a school year model which runs from August 1 to July 31st each year. Our top U13 and older teams participate in MLS Next League which follows calendar year birth. So we have decided to stay in that model giving all our youth players the ability to make the MLS Next roster at U13. Changes to rosters will occur when players get to U13. This year that will affect our 2013 and 2014 birth year players. In collaboration as a staff the boys YDP will follow BIRTH YEAR for teams next year: What does this mean? Very simply players will be grouped based on the year of birth. For 2026-27 Year 2020 Birth Year= U7's 2019 Birth Year= U8's 2018 Birth Year= U9's 2017 Birth Year= U10's 2016 Birth Year = U11's 2015 Birth Year= U12's We will hold a YDP wide Zoom meeting to discuss reasons and how it will work when players get to U13 age group. I will send a date and time which will be posted on the website soon. Thanks, Trevor |
