Best Coach in the area!

SM as a great coach is not universally accepted. Pros - he coaches strong technical fundamentals and promotes fitness. Teaches kids to think about their place in the game and positional awareness. Promotes good decision-making.

But shows little / no empathy for players and does not communicate well. Strikes fear and intimidation, which has more drawbacks than benefits IMO, especially at younger ages. Does not tolerate mistakes well and kids often play in fear of making mistakes.

The same technical results he gets out of players are achieved at many top teams by coaches who inspire and motivate. A mentally strong kid who can tolerate his methods may become a better player...but MORE kids with great potential drop out. Through many years involved in the game locally I’ve seen and heard cases where children want to or have quit because of him.

At the very least, he shouldn't be coaching kids younger than U-13 unless he softens his approach.

SM appears to be out. Hasn't been around for a while with U-Littles and no longer listed:

AO has been around recently. Would welcome any views or input on him as a coach, to the extent anyone has experience being on one of his teams.

I think this is a fair and reasonable assessment of SM. I don’t know exactly why he’s not with the club, but it is true that he’s no longer coaching for BSC. People on this thread who are denying this fact are wrong.

Disappointing that a few parents chose not to drop to 2nd team than handle the instruction of a coach who will prepare you for everything on the college/pro track.

Please name 2 coaches comparable to him.

AO has been around recently. Would welcome any views or input on him as a coach, to the extent anyone has experience being on one of his teams.

🤯 That is updated as I checked it last week. His name is gone.

Bethesda is really going down.

Awwwwww FFS you’re right. He’s gone!! But Philip gyau is still there!!! Wtf. It’s just the worst coaches now. PD, who is the most awful, pompous, absolutely the worst, DB, not great, BM, meh, they are ALL MID now.
SM you were great!!! Of course not for everyone, no one is for everyone, but a great coach!!! Got the best out of the boys. Real talent. Real gift. The rest is all plodding and talentless dreck.

You still have not named acronyms. Our coach is woefully incompetent in replacing SM. Who are these “just as good” replacements.

Why is having the girls in ECNL and the boys in MLSN an issue? The girls can't join MLSN and MLSN is a notch above ECNL on the boys side.

Seriously? Have you all watch your boys play? Horrible. MLSNext…lol. The play is so poor. Barely connect passes.
