Wizards and Caps could be moving to Potomac Yard

This proposal looks like it will fail.

Much like the Disney deal back in Haymarket area back in the 90s. The fears of congestion, too many people and traffic and over development. What people couldn't see back then , was it was going to happen with or without Disney. I get it bc I lived here in the 90s and back then we just couldn't see any boon coming to that area. Would Disney have been better than the over building of McMansions? Maybe. Maybe not.

The arena deal is the same way. It's impossible to know what forces will shape the future. In the early 90s we didn't understand the impact of technology or the internet on the DMV area. And there will be something else in the future that we don't know today.

To be fair, they were going to put Disney on a historic battlefield. If it had been proposed for south of I-66, then it would have been otherwise fine.

I never understood how a patriotic themed Disney theme park could survive. It wouldn’t have had any of the typical Disney rides and attractions. Funny how the save the Battlefield people won against Disney, but lost against the data centers that will soon emit their low frequency humming throughout the national park.

A battlefield that doesn't have any significance. Are their people visiting it?

It’s a park. Lots of people go there to enjoy the beautiful countryside. Civil War buffs are few and far between especially in this day and age.

No it wasn’t going to be on the battlefield but it was going to be a few miles from the battlefield.

Yes actually. It is pretty cool, if you like history.

Do you have any numbers or just your personal observations?

The Civil War battlefields in Va don’t compete with Disney as an attraction. They compete with Busch Gardens, Luray Caverns, Kings Dominion, Skyline Drive, and the Natural Bridge.

Disney America with its whitewashed and saccharine depiction of American history would’ve been unacceptable in a few years. Also, we already have a wildly popular historically-themed park—Busch Gardens which pays homage to both our European and French Canadian heritage. It is home to the largest German beer hall outside of Germany.

I guess Ted now has at least talked to Maryland, continuing his billionaire desire to have others pay for his new toy.

You sound like my dad. You already have a pair of socks, why would you need two pairs of socks? You can't wear both pairs at the same time. Imagine a place having two popular historical attractions. It just boggles the mind doesn't it?

I think his current mindset is anywhere but D.C. The final showdown will be between National Landing and National Harbour (where the future Bloop station will be located).
