Biden's VP?

I doubt it. I would have no problem with a female candidate+running mate but fear how the country would react. It will probably be Women of Color Candidate + White male Running mate.

+1 I really like those two but agree they're unlikely. My top three is just about a tie between Duckworth, Bass, and Lujan Grisham. Demings edged out by the experience issue, but I do like her a lot. If Baldwin and Whitmer were real possibilities, I'd be very happy with any of these six women honestly.

I agree with this 100% Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto would’ve been a top choice for me if she hadn’t withdrawn. I grew up in Reno and volunteered on her AG campaign back in the day, She is fantastic.

I like her as well but she is too fresh. Shes only been a Senator since 2017.

Same as Harris! I do think it's wise of her to wait and gain more experience though.

Agreed. Its a tricky situation because clearly Biden's VP will be the top of the ticket for the dems in 2024. I want Harris or Masto to be at the top of the ticket in 2024, but I don't want them to be Biden's VP.

I think there's a lot of talent percolating right now, and there's no need to designate the VP an heir apparent for 2024. It's not necessary. Especially if the VP is someone like Bass, who has no aspirations for future runs, that leaves room for the younger talent, including Whitmer and Demings, to develop over the next several years.

Tammy Duckworth Pete Buttigieg 2024, bet.

Ugh, no thank you to another candidate from my failed home state specifically because of her record at the IDVA!

If Buttigieg does well with a plumb Cabinet appointment (UN ambassador?), I could see this.

Here's the problem with Buttigieg. Not only was he way too green to be President, he doesn't even have enough relevant experience for the plumb Cabinet appointments. And he's way more experienced that Stacey Abrams.

Buttigieg has no foreign policy experience to qualify for UN ambassador. He has very good domestic policy experience, but he has virtually no foreign policy experience. Appointing someone like that to the UN ambassador position would be more like Trump than Biden.

Neither did Nikki Hailey. It's not uncommon for the position to be used to get that credential for a younger politician being groomed for "big things," since it's not a particularly consequential position these days.

^^ thanks to Russia and China having veto power, little gets done. But it's a great learning ground.

Thing about Buttigieg--he's intelligent and well educated but what specifically has he accomplished in Indiana? Sincere question.

Nikki Hailey was the governor of state and much more popular among conservatives than Buttigieg is among liberals. Also, Biden is likely going to back to the old, strategic way of picking his cabinet, so you can't really compare him to Trump and his cronyism. Younger politicians who are being "groomed" are given HUD or Transportation, not UN Ambassador. Lastly, one of Biden's biggest jobs (should he win) is going to be rebuilding Americans reputation on the world stage so UN Ambassador would be especially important in the first few years of his administration.

PP Here, If you look at the UN Ambassadors for the last two presidents (before Trump), they have been:
-Sam Power, accomplished war journalist / 4 year member of Obamas NSC
-Susan Rice, extensive foreign policy experience
-Zalmay Khalilzad, member of reagans state department and ambasador of Iraq and Afghanistan
-Bolton, extensive foreign policy experience and former assistant AG
-John Danforth, Senator for 20 years
-John Negroponte, career foreign service officer, ambassador to three countries before becoming UN Amb.

Look, I am a big fan of Buttigieg. He is just too green. I think he should run for congress in Indiana and get some more experience. He has a bright career ahead of him.
