Right now true beats most of VLC’s middle school and elementary school teams. (True has teams at every grade - something VLC can’t say). Whether this continues into HS is the big question. ML looks shaky with multiple team implosions over the last couple years. So I think that there is a chance a team (true/VLC) moves into the third spot. DCEs 27 & 28s have serious problems and a lot of talented kids will need somewhere to go. VLC’s got a chance.

Other than the 28 team where VLC has none and True has a very weak A level Hoco team, how is True doing better at MS/ES ages? 29 True is an AA team that was destroyed by a Richmond team in a summer tourny, VLC had an Elite team and probably AAA now combining Poon + leftovers. 2030 was AA and True was A, 2031 Poon was undefeated at AAA and True barely had a team.

In NOVA, True does a great job keeping a bunch of very mediocre players who will never play in college paying $3000+ and playing for tgen. That's indeed an amazing job. Unless that's what you call "beats" by quantity.

The True 29 team (along with most of the True age teams) that went down to Woodbury weren't the same VA True teams from the rest of the summer. It definitely wasn't the 2029 that won HOCO AA. It was a mix of True Fredericksburg kids and some True Va kids. I know their entire attach and 2 of 3 starting middies didn't go to that tournament for a variety of reasons. What was True Va last year is moving toward a True NOVA program and then a True Virginia Premier team - sort of what True NC and True Illinois is doing. It is certainly a question as to whether True VA has the depth to create a similar level program. But, one of the reasons they are branching off into Loudoun and bought Venom down in Richmond.

That's very unfortunate because in their marketing those were billed as "True VA Premier" aka True VA all-star teams, which makes one think they are True Nova+ quality teams. Like others said numerous times earlier, True is very good at marketing, that is a great business skill. However, no matter what way you look at them, this is just a AA/A ish program from HS to MS/ES teams. It's just a combination of rec A/B level players with with most ending their playing in HS. This is even worse than Top Caliber (heavy with D3 college players) in it's heydays.

Thanks VLC coach!

Not a VLC coach. Just pointing out some True parent’s BS on a VLC discussion.

Don’t need to hear from rec B level Bs.

Actually, sounds a lot like sour grapes because VLC teams and the program in general is imploding. Many of those kids leaving VLC are going to True. So what makes those left behind in VLC exactly? It is the 2nd year in a row that VLC will be unable to field an 8th grade team in HOCO.

If it’s the Cavs folks who are leaving, the players/families staying will be better off. It’ll take some time to rebuild, but I think having one team per age and not pulling guest players in for tourneys is a good thing. The hard part is finding a quality coach that stays with the age group through HS. That’s always a challenge for any club around here.

Who ever is on this thread constantly defending VLC needs to cool it. They’re just inviting the large number of angry parents to bash VLC. No one who knows anything about Lacrosse in the DMV thinks that VLC is well run or high performing. If you want to rehabilitate the brand tell us what VLC is changing/improving.

good point, no 8th grade HoCo team for two years in a row is a bad look. but the 2024 to 2026 teams are solid, 2027 is now back in action and likely to be solid too, and 2029 and below are TBD.

maybe the VLC program is not the greatest in history, but other that Next Level and DCE, there are no great programs anymore. MadLax has a ton of issues, Blackwolf is a shell of its old self, True gets no respect, for good reason, and its teams vary widely (mostly bad); programs like Hammers, Evergreen, etc. are constantly folding and can't pretend to be elite. Even the once mighty Hawks have become a joke in some classes such as 2026.

and before we nominate NL or DCE for sainthood, they're not perfect either.

this is a tough business and give VLC some credit for providing a good product, to some people, for as long as they have.

Could this be the same old 2025 Dad who was constantly griping about VLC on this Board? I hope to heaven he has moved on by now.

The top ex VLC players who went to NL and DCE are happy and moved on with their lives. They have something great ahead and can careless.

It is usually the mediocre ones who are still sour and it’s can’t get over it. Some of those bottom ones went to True and are dreaming that True Nova will be legit.

Didn’t they have two 2025 teams last year? Where did all those kids go? Defected to NL/DCE?
