Sudiksha went to TJ an elite public school. Students there work really hard. I’ve often seen them sacrifice fun times in the pursuit of academic excellence. She was on a path of premed clearly she was sorted out. She made some bad choices and lost her life. Paid a big price how can people who know nothing about her come out here in a public forum and judge her . She was a role model to many. When they heard the young man had not returned (not sure if that part matches timeline), they could have assumed that she was still with him.

They barely knew the girl, and had just met her the night before. It really wasn’t their responsibility. When someone is missing for just a few hours, it is very likely they will turn up. No, I don’t know her room number? Her friends are on a boat excursion and don’t have cell service). You really think the hotel was going to take that seriously or start some type of official search? I believe they adjusted the timeline that the friends and 1 man left the beach at 4:55, not 5:55 - at the same time as they last saw her.

There was speculation on the internet (I don't remember what site) that she gave her phone to her friends because of "find my phone" type services. So that if her parents were tracking her movements by phone location, it would look like she was with her friends.

I don't think there's anything particularly weird about her friends' behavior. They left her in a public place with a guy she seemed to be into, most likely to hook up. She likely insisted on being left. Was it a bad call in hindsight? Sure. But she's an adult likely saying she wants to stay behind with a guy she had her arm around earlier in the night. What exactly are they supposed to do? I'm sure it seemed safe because he was also a US tourist staying at the resort and they were leaving them out in the open/in public. Probably had the same aura of safety that a college campus does, where this exact same behavior happens every day (i.e., kids go out in groups to drink, eventually a couple or two peels off to hook up).

We don't actually know whether she was supposed to go with them on the day trip, but even assuming she was... they knew she was drunk & with a guy in the wee early hours of the morning (probably only a couple of hours before they went on the excursion). Would they really be shocked when she didn't show? Maybe they had gone home to sleep because of the excursion and when she chose to stay out they assumed she was blowing it off.

As soon as they got back and couldn't find her, they reported her missing.

It would be helpful to know why they had her phone. Did she leave it in her room because it was dead from the power outage or because she didn't want to get it wet/sandy at the beach? Not weird at all. Did she hand it off that evening? Weirder, but still not that weird if it had died.

It was very very common in college for one of us to “go home with a guy” or “crash somewhere else” or whatever. In the AM people were either sleeping in, or had places to be. A person would not necessarily be missed until afternoon at the earliest. Which seemed to be the case here.

I think it is very understandable (and very believable) that no one realized she was missing until later in the day. They all thought she was with others and/or sleeping, and this would not really be considered unusual college behavior.

Yes but I think posters think the friends could have made sure she was definitely not going on the excursion (someone said Venmo history was released and she had Venmo her friend for the outing). When they heard the young man had not returned (not sure if that part matches timeline), they could have assumed that she was still with him.

I cannot imagine a scenario in which I do not check in with my friend to confirm she’s OK when she has spent multiple hours with a man She has only just met especially when she’s paid a large sum to go on this excursion. Nothing flagged in her friends heads that something was odd or off that she was hooking up with some random guy And missing out on the excursion?

You? Me? Yes of course. But them? They are foolish college girls, presumably running on a few hours sleep and probably very hungover. And didn’t want to miss the excursion they paid for, either. Odds are they woke up not long before the scheduled pickup time (not leaving a lot of extra time to search for their friend) and assumed she was with him and probably sleeping for a hangover. They had her phone so they couldn’t check with her to confirm. So they decided to go on the excursion (rather than be out $) and assumed she’d be there when they returned.

Per Ribe, her friend texted Carter Johnson looking for her. Since Ribe was not back at that point, they and CJ likely believed they were together. When Ribe returned alone and heard that the girl he says he had not seen for hours had not returned, at 10am he at least knew she was missing. We don’t know what he told CJ since he did not answer that LE question. We know he did not communicate that to friends, resort or LE. Friends had to deduce she was missing when returned at 4.

Why? Who benefits from delayed search? What was in his pocket that was not a phone or key?

All the detail about his arm on her neck could be trying to get a story out if she is found with bruising on her throat.

They barely knew the girl, and had just met her the night before. It really wasn’t their responsibility. When someone is missing for just a few hours, it is very likely they will turn up. Even if they’d reported it to the hotel (“hey this girl is kind of missing? Haven’t seen her in a few hours. Her name is sudisa or something like that? No, I don’t know her last name. No, I don’t know her room number? Her friends are on a boat excursion and don’t have cell service). You really think the hotel was going to take that seriously or start some type of official search? Especially as reported by guys that are still likely drunk from the night before? I doubt it.

Easy to claim that, we can’t know what the resort would have done because they were not provided with information. Nor were her friends.

It looks suspicious, esp in light of his detailed heroics just hours before.

Had he reported at 10am would look a lot better for him.

YOU don't know what the girls knew, what they reported or what they did. Except have possession of Sudiksha's phone, leave her alone on red flag beach with drunk dude at 5am, go on a tour for the day and then fly home.

We know what Ribe told LE about it. And we know he did not ever report. We know the friends reported at 4 when they got back and she was still missing. Had Ribe or CJ told them Ribe was back alone and had not seen her for hours before that, it likely would have been reported.

Perhaps Ribe thought the longest possible delay would allow her body to float further out and give him time to make up his story. And perhaps hide whatever he was clutching in his pocket that was not a phone or room key.

Wait - the girls reported Sudiksha missing at 4am when they got back from the beach? Well the least the could have done.

4 PM Thursday obviously. They were with her at the 4 AM hour Thursday.

Perhaps you didnt read repeatedly posted comments above. It seems the friends did try to figure out if she may still have been with the guy before they left for the outing. Apparently the young man's friend replied young man (Riibe) hadn't returned. So the friends assumed she may be with him. Maybe they looked around too for her, don't know. When they returned from outing and still didn't see her they reported.

So YOU say. They left her on the beach. They left her to take a daylong boat cruise. They left her on the island and went home. Oh but they did have her phone

That’s why the girls should have given background info. They would have said there’s no way or they would have had a clue as to her intentions or state of mind. And before incessant pp comes and says “maybe they did” — the point is we’ve heard nothing from them and their pov would be informative if not helpful.

We are hearing about Riibe from his community. There is nothing about Sudiksha from her community, school friends, college friends etc., not just the 5 friends who went on the vacation - where is the outrage? At this point, I have no idea what sort of person she is.
