Someone gave the video or posted it from that group. I don't think all the men in the group were involved, some were just there but not stopping it. It should be easy enough to track them down and the police should be doing that.

Working at a hospital isn't relevant. They didn't do anything to patients or to hospital staff in the course of their job. This same incident would have happened if it was a woman coming back from her workout at the gym or from hanging out at her friends house, etc.

And what exactly would you want them to do at the hospital? They aren't trained/licensed to perform any medical duties. Even just admin/desk work would require extensive training.

Battery - she said to stop touching her pregnant belly. Intimation, hate crime, kidnapping (they wouldn’t let her leave), theft. I’m sure there are some that are missing.

They are clearly in the wrong but these charges are a stretch to say the least. Kidnapping? They didn't stop her from leaving - they stopped her fro leaving with the bike. That's wrong, but its not kidnapping.

+1, were it not for the online harassment and defamation, I don't think very many people would try to prosecute these charges. I'd be upset about it but it wouldn't be worth the headache of filing a report and potentially testifying in court. And for what? I don't think a stint in juvie or in jail is going to make these guys behave better. The best way to address behavior like this is as a society to not tolerate it, to teach children not to do it and if you see it happening, to intervene and say "no, leave this woman alone."

I think the guys in the video screwed up but I see no advantage to trying to charge them with something. It wouldn't solve anything.

DP but I think the only thing that might stop them from doing it again is a harsh punishment.
I don’t think they learned any lessons or that their caregivers are going to make sure they learn them.

Her lawyer says they don't want to pursue the guys. So they haven't gone to the police.

So is that admitting he was wrong? As someone who has never rented one of these bikes, I'm confused by the whole thing.

I was a poster who really believed she was in the wrong after watching the video. Her behavior did not seem to match anything I've seen from victims or experienced as a victim myself. Obviously I was wrong.

There weren't really any victims in this. There was a misunderstanding that led to a very minor confrontation as both parties felt they were in the right. She was tired and fed up and wanted to go home and some of that came out. The boys were being rude and she realized she just needed to let it go and get on a differnet bike and go home.

Her lawyer is very professional and not a drama / lime light / dramatizing type. He is an employment lawyer, not a celebrity lawyer. There is no reason to not believe her account (told via her lawyer).

The woman who was out umnered, harassed, and had her fetus threatened, and was humiliated on video on Intermet, who was stalked and scared away from her own home, and was sent away from her job, is certainly a victim. I hope she wins a huge payout. And social media sites need to pay for spreading this stuff recklessly.

This is fantastic, though I do think he probably missed the boat by a few days -- a lot of people appear to have deleted tweets at this point.

But I would love if this case actually addressed the question of social media bullying/defamation. There could be implication, for instance, for teenagers who get harassed by peers online. It feels like for some time the attitude has simply been "oh well people can say whatever they want about you online, try not to make yourself a target," but what if this case forced social media platforms and users to face consequences for spreading lies and defamatory statements online. Yeah, but websites like the Wayback Machine can recover deleted tweets, as long as you know the profile of the person who made the tweets & the approx time they were made.... it might not be such a lost cause?
