I think I read 1 VA player (who left Pride) went to M&D. Where do the other top VA players play (in MD)?

There was a Stars player that left a couple of years ago and is still on M&D. There was a Stars player that left a couple of years ago for Coppermine and moved to M&D this year. There is the Pride player that left this year for M&D.

Ah. That makes sense.

Are these players on M&D Black or Red or both?

They are all currently on M&D black.

On a different note looks like fall festival schedule changed and Stars agreed to switch schedules and divisions with Belles. They now have Crush, Coppermine, and MDU!

Brutal but better to play up than down.

Interested to know why "currently" was used in your first sentence.

That schedule will certainly answer the critics on Stars not playing in the top brackets. Good learning experience.

Didn't mean anything by it at all. Just meant that is where they are this year.

Could I respectfully recommend that we put this topic in the fully-covered box for now. For those that don't want to go back and read the multiple pages of prior discussion on this, a quick summary:

-A number of very good players who live in equal or better commuting range for Capital as for the Baltimore clubs, currently play for top clubs in MD (eg M&D and Hero's). This number is between 5-10.

-It would strengthen the eventual Capital 2028 team if some of them tried out and switched teams.

-It is unknown whether any of them would make a switch or intend to try out for Capital, and not in the interest of those families or their confidants to share at any time before the actual tryouts.

-It may be a good sign that 3-4 of them showed up at the Capital clinics over the past several weeks, but no one knows whether that will translate into tryouts next July. Lots of factors, and lots of lacrosse between now and then.

In sum, this is all 9 months away and there is not a whole lot more to discuss at this time, so I think we can give this topic a break for a bit. Please.

Thank you for the summary. I find it interesting that you included in your summary a point about it not being in the interest of those families or their confidants to share at any time before the actual tryouts. I don't recall anyone saying that before.

Question for the group. How do the privates recruit players? Do you have to show interest first or do they make contact?

Not an expert, but just because I don't want the first response to your question to be some condescending troll saying "IYKYK" or something worse, I can take a crack.

From what I have heard from lacrosse families with older girls at privates, and gleaned on this board and others, there are a variety of ways the conversation can get started. It does sound like the predominant first contact is a family/player reaching out to the school/coach to express interest. In some cases they ask you to make a formal inquiry or application. Other routes seem to be clubs, clinics, friends with kids who go to the school, and word of mouth. On the club side, I'm told that Stars has a close relationship with the coach at SSSA, for example. Seems like one good approach is to have a club coach engage the school if they know the coach personally, either as the icebreaker or to validate why the coach should be interested.

One word of caution--I would take with a grain of salt the responses that you will get that suggest that the best players are actively and competitively recruited, or routinely offered aid or grants, and if this is not happening for you, they are not interested in your daughter. It's not that deep as the kids say. A straightforward approach to the coach of a school you are interested it is probably just fine.

In some of the private schools it is very difficult to get financial aid. Certain sports tend to have a number of kids who are good at the sport and also happen to qualify for financial aid so it's a win-win. Lacrosse isn't one of those sports in this area. I think having the coach like you and want you (from as early as elementary school) can definitely help from the admissions standpoint but you still have to pay the freight.

Not taking that one, Fanduel has SD thrown out within the first five minutes in the first half after stars gets their third yellow.

What’s the line on Big Pecker tank tops on the M&D sidelines? Has it moved from 15?
