I thought this was part of Charles’ plan- to winnow down the RF to Himself and Will and his immediate family. He has seen what happens when the RF grows with each successive generation.

Think of it like Victoria marrying off her children to live across Europe- only this time it is to North America.

I wouldn't be surprised if Harry has never wanted to be a "working" royal. I'm sure he thanks god every day he is not the heir and was even happier when Will got married and had kids.

Imagine the bubble he has grown up in. If he truly told no one their plans before the announcement, I feel for him. Clearly there is a rift in the family. Meghan Markle grew up with a single mom and an estranged dad. I doubt she has the same appreciation for a strong web of extended family. He may find that he misses them, hopefully she can figure out how to support him through that. It could be a hard transition for him.

Weird how Harry is lampooned as a 'momma's boy' but the argument is that William wouldn't cheat because 'he saw what it did to his mommy'.

They're not begging them to stay, they're making a factual statement. Clearly Harry and Meghan didn't think this through. I'm sure they haven't considered security, where they'll live, funding, engagements, etc. For two people who have long been supported financially by the Firm, this is a disgusting, self-serving, immature, irresponsible and disrespectful move. It looks like a public temper tantrum being thrown two grown adults who just want to get their way. Except that their entire plan for "self-sufficiency" still hinges on their relation to and history with the Crown. Nobody is interested in Harry or MM simply because they think they are nice or intelligent people. They trademarked Sussex Royal so they could make money from branding and merchandising while completely disregarding the fact that they only reason Sussex Royal even exists and has any notoriety is...because of the Crown that they just publicly blindsided and disrespected!

Most Americans had never heard of her or Suits prior to her dating Harry. It was a third string cable show.

They'll manage. They have name recognition. A few possibilities:

1. Start a charity or put their name on one. Take jobs as "executive director". Donations will roll in due to star power.
2. Appear as a paid speaker at events. I guarantee you the Roofing Tile Association of America would gladly pay $50-100k to have of them speak at the next convention at the Sheraton in Des Moines.
3. Write a book, and invest the proceeds well.
4. Go back to acting

She actually grew up with her Dad and lived with her Dad. She was on Hollywood sets after school (where he was working). He paid to send her to elite private schools.

They obviously have a passion for philanthropy. He can do Invictus Games and they can also start to support more progressive causes - the use of the word progressive in their announcement was telling. She is a feminist and a WOC and they claim to care about the environment. If they are freed from royal duties they can do whatever they want, maybe even get political.
