The New York Times: Black NoVa Girl Says White Private School Classmates Cut Her Dreadlocks

I think the parent’s statement was excellent.....taking accountability and apologizing. Contrast that with imbeciles like Smollett who double down on their idiotic fabrications.

+1.

But the real problem is not the crazies and the haters, some are always out there.

The real problem is the media looking for crazies and haters TO GIVE THEM A MEGAPHONE and call that "news."

This was national news when anyone with an ounce of objectivity could tell that at least some, if not all, of this story was likely to unravel. The only thing missing from the story was Karen Pence watching the incident while it happened and smirking. And yet national news outlets ran with it, the poor girl was presented with gifts on TV and journalists complained that the school had still not announced disciplinary action against the boys. It is all so telling.

I knew the second I heard this story that it was false. Just like the Jussie Smollet story.

No 12 year old white boy is using the word 'nappy'.

The real story is wtf is the problem with the grandparents who ran with the story and allowed their granddaughter to be filmed and interviewed???

This.

Is there anyone with critical thinking left in the NYT and cable networks?

Apparently not.

Maybe the young girl just wants straight hair and militant grandma won't let her?

It was something like that.

Thanks to crazy grandma and the propaganda machine, a little lie became a national farce.

The story was planted. It was so obvious. Everyone here even knew it was fake long before admission and apology. No family would have exposed their childs face and give their real name.

This aged well.

As I recall from the stories, it was supposed to have happened on Monday and been reported on Thursday AM. Since it was being recanted publicly by Sunday, that means that the school and the police knew almost immediately it was made up. My guess is one the accused was not at school last Monday, and the story fell apart very quickly. That gives them the weekend to negotiate the apology.

I'm not as super woke as others here, but I'm still a mom and I have sympathy for all of the KIDS involved here. They're all being used as puppets. The girl was wrong, but she deserved to be wrong in private just like any other kid her age. Yes, she lied and then kept up the act so so she wouldn't get in trouble but she wasn't the one calling CNN in the first place.

We have to give her credit for finally getting to the truth.

The true criminals here are the "adults" in the room. Those grandparents and those media outlets should pay heavy fines for malpractice and defamation.

that plus the cameras on the playground.

How did any news outlet run this at all. The pre-teen was saying things that made no sense - packed playground, boys calling her "attention seeker" (there's a real insult in the heat of the moment) "nappy" "shouldn't have been born", had a scissors and cut her hair, etc., etc. What on earth.

+100. Without the cameras the school and boys would have been dead in the water. A $100k system pays for itself with preventing just one false claim. Don’t know why more schools don’t put them in.

No. It was the cameras. The girls lawyer is quoted in some story saying it was the cameras.
