That question is pretty open-ended and I'd like to see what Trump voters would think if "personally benefits" is replaced by "politically benefits." |
He's gone. The transcript proves that he made U.S. policy toward Ukraine contingent on an investigation of Biden.

So this is Pence's doing? Great, we get Pence for Pres! |
Election interference and violation of campaign finance law, from the WaPo:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/transcript-of-trumps-call-with-ukrainian-president-shows-him-offering-us-assistance-for-biden-investigation/2019/09/25/16aa36ca-df0f-11e9-8dc8-498eabc129a0_story.html "President Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart to work with the U.S. attorney general to investigate the conduct of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and offered to meet with the foreign leader at the White House after he promised to conduct such an inquiry, according to a newly-released transcript of the call. Those statements and others in a July 25 phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky were so concerning that the intelligence community inspector general thought them a possible violation of campaign finance law. In late August, intelligence officials referred the matter to the Justice Department as a possible crime, but prosecutors concluded last week that the conduct was not criminal, according to senior Justice Department officials." |
Not for long, but actually he's the kind to follow the law... I'm getting nostalgic about people who do that... |
We also don’t know what is meant by first hand knowledge. Dan Coats or John Bolton could be the whistle blower and one could argue that neither technically had first hand knowledge because they wouldn’t have been on the call— the people who report to them would have been. It is likely that the whistle blower is further up the chain of command. That is the nature of the role of DNI and NSA. |
No, it didn't. |
Trump will fight it, which is fine because it will ensure that the evidence of his other crimes and of the criminal actions of the other criminals in his Administration will be exposed. |
According to the NYT, "Intelligence Officials Referred Activity to Justice Dept., Which Declined to Investigate":
Heads at DOJ are going to roll. Barr first. |
The Democrats have egg on their faces, again. No quid pro quo. Trump references the European lack of help. |
"Mr. Giuliani is a highly respected man. He was the mayor of New York City, a great mayor, and I would like him to call you. I will ask him to call you along with the Attorney General. Rudy very much knows what's happening and he is a very capable guy. If you could speak to him that would be great. The former ambassador from the United States, the woman, was bad news and the people she was dealing with in the Ukraine were bad news so I just want to let you know that The other thing, There's a lot of talk about Biden's son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it ... It sounds horrible to me." BTW, the Ukrainian President doesn't come out looking good, which is why he publicly asked that the call shouldn't be released. |
Talk about "deep state," everything conservatives accuse others of is exactly what they are doing themselves. This situation is completely disturbing. |
The whole call was Trump demanding actions from Ukraine based on his campaign agenda, not the interests of the United States. What a corrupt idiot. |
The quote above is Trump speaking, of course. |
