Stars Lacrosse Club

There is one great Stars team. I believe it is 2024. that is it. the other ones are ok but no different than clubs in MD (outside of Baltimore). Their younger programs, 2025, 2026, etc. beat Stars. The issue is when Stars holds tryouts for these grades, they won't get quality players because they are going to other teams. Not just Pride but MD teams. Stars will always have a random good team, but the organization itself will go down, due to the fact they have nothing in the pipeline. Oh, there is a great Bethesda team 2027 or 2028, not sure, but they are good on their own. They aren't on Stars, and if they end up choosing Stars, it wasn't Stars that made them a great team. There will be several good clubs down the line. However, Stars thinking they are on top, is just plain wrong. Montgomery County which I think is MC will move up as well.

I think the better question is what is wrong with Stars that they have to have JUNE TRYOUTS so that their players do not have the option to try out for other clubs? Go look at their website and read their thinly veiled excuse for why they moved the try-outs.
It’s frankly just sad.

With Bethesda Lacrosse Club starting club teams in sixth grade, they no longer mention their previous partnership with Stars. If that merger is done, will Stars get the numbers for two teams? I’m trying to figure out what club will work best for my DD and Stars is convenient but I worry about a shallow talent pool.

My DD played for Stars through last year, when she moved on to HS. I don’t remember any teammates coming from Bethesda Lacrosse Club, though there may have been. I just don’t think it was a big deal or a source of many players.

The really strong Bethesda players either play for M&D, Skywalkers or Capital. None of the others play anywhere else - just check the rosters.

We are talking about younger age groups. Why are you talking about Capital? Capital doesn’t compete with Stars. The Stars/BLC partnership existed for the past few years and brought together players from a wider geographic area. It appears to be over now though.

Isn't it all just positioning for the rosters for the club teams that the girls can play for during their high school years?

That "merger" was made for one reason only--to create a pipeline for the daughter of the mother who was running BLC at the time to Capital. She saw that Stars was the better route, so "merged" the teams to get her daughter on Stars. Daughter aged out of Stars this summer, so no more need for that merger. Did she make Capital is the question?

So in response you have your facts all wrong. It wasn’t working for multiple reasons mostly because families from Bethesda struggled with the drive with traffic like it is. Kids in middle school should play to have fun and get developed. Fun being key word. Kids being in a car for over an hour to two hours sitting in traffic on a weeknight/school night in sixth and seventh grade and getting home late from lacrosse practice is no fun. Don’t bring people’s kids into things. You really ought to realize the people all of you talk about on this are taking time to give back and help kids. Stop the negativity and bashing and stop blowing things out of proportion and defaming people.

There was no bashing. It was a great idea. You cannot deny the timing of the merger and subsequent dismantling. And it was incredibly unfortunate for all those Bethesda players who were looking toward playing BLC, then had it ripped out from under them as they entered 6th grade, leaving them to play "select" with newer, weaker players--unless they wanted to drive all over creation to play Stars. And you point out what a difficulty that was. All it did was make an opportunity for a few of those 2023 players, including the daughter of the mastermind behind this move, and took away a strong opportunity for the rest. I would not call that her giving back. What she did was selfish. Okay, I guess I am bashing.

Can we get back on topic? Why can’t Stars write emails or call people back? Universal complaint over many grades.

It’s problematic and affects turnout for tryouts and team formation especially in the younger grades.

They call back who they think matters. End of story.
