For all of the misery at TJ I wonder if the kids think it was a mistake to attend. TJ students might stand out more and be less one dimensional if they weren't competing with students that are groomed since pre-K to memorize and take tests. A school were being a robot is the goal. They probably would be more well rounded if they went to school in a more normal environment.

Idiots always believe they are more well rounded just because they have low IQ.

You are both right

Bosses of these folks almost always have lower IQ but they make more money, have more friends and are generally happier. To each their own. TJ really fits the bamboo ceiling stereotype. Most of the TJ graduates top out very quickly on the pay scale and never reach management levels.

This is a reality. Good people skills and leadership skills will take anyone farther in almost any job. You can't teach it school.

Correct I wrote the above TJ is mostly asians now who have parents that don't understand that doing well in school is not what matters in the real world. Not meant to be a swipe against Asians or TJ but that is what the demographics currently are. I have an MBA from top 5 and I know its been pretty frustrating in my own career to see people rise up who have no business being there. The people from my class who are the most successful weren't the sharpest. That's just the reality and the sooner parents and kids learn it the better. Its all about networking and selling yourself.

+1000

That's how it is in the real world. The people at the top are not usually the ones with the biggest degrees. In fact no one really cares about where you went to HS.

Thank you!!! +1,000,000!!

You haven't met TJ grads. They have great social skills and great communication skills (speaking & writing) and they are highly motivated in addition to possessing exceptional intelligence.

TJ dominates local and national debate tournaments and the local and national Model UN competitions!

They cream McLean and Langley.

Once again, YOU CAN'T COMPARE RESULTS FROM A SELECTIVE ADMISSIONS MAGNET TO A OPEN ADMISSIONS PUBLIC SCHOOL. Can't you grasp how ridiculous that is? That these schools can compete with a selective magnet is amazing. As a TJ parent, you give us all a bad name. You are pathetic.

I thought all TJ students were one dimensional drones lacking good communication skills while students at top base schools (such as Langley and McLean) were socially skilled, well-rounded, multi-dimensional great communicators with lawyers as parents. No?

Are you a TJ student? Whoever you are, you are most definitely one-dimensional and lacking in social skills.

What a great comeback.

Asian parents do understand that "connections: is the most important thing!!! They are constantly working on that and that is why TJ Alumni association is so active in helping each other with internships and jobs etc.

Wait, are parents running the Alumni Association now?

I thought it was run by, well, graduates of TJ.

Perhaps, your alumni association is run by parents. Where would you get such an idea?

The first quote seems to indicate that the parents are somehow involved with the Alumni Association.

Anonymous wrote:Is it just me or is this list underwhelming? If the primary goal of having a child attend TJ is to get them into an elite college, I think many of those TJ parents to be (and their kids) might be in for a rude awakening. Certainly not all TJ parents are pushing their kids to attend TJ so Johnny can get into Harvard, Stanford or MIT but prolly a large number do think this way whether they admit it or not.

This was the original point which has gotten lost in all this back and forth. The college list as presented is underwhelming to me too.

Keep repeating that and you may actually believe it.

I will. And you go ahead and keep believing that TJ is like MIT

Meanwhile, our kids will see each other at the same college.

You might prefer Penn State or Michigan State.

TJ has the best college placements of any high schools in the US.

Which high school has (on average) 12+ acceptances to MIT, 13+ acceptances to Duke, 10+ acceptances to Princeton, 30+ acceptances to Berkeley, 50+ acceptances to Michigan, 7-8 acceptances to Yale, 7-8 acceptances to Stanford, 5-6 acceptances to Harvard, 25+ acceptances to Cornell, 10+ acceptances to Chicago, 30+ acceptances to CMU, 200+ acceptances to UVA per year?

It’s ok for people to not agree with you. Here’s a Xanax and a glass of Kool-Aid to chase it.
