You're a profound thinker, you are. |
I have read all published commentary on endorsements and haven't seen anything as bitter, angry, homophobic or anti-women as what was related here. Difference of opinion? Challenging record? Sure. But no "blast" or "attack." Those words don't seem to apply. I cross several personal and professional special interest groups, and I, too, am very surprised by endorsement choices. I believe groups are hedging bets on who will win and whose favor they want to curry. |
Sanders said that experience in foreign policy is relevant but is not everything and that good judgement is just as important. He then said that Cheney was experienced in foreign policy but his judgement was terrible - to make his point. It is an entirely valid comparison in that context. PP and LGBTQ will support Sanders if he is the nominee. Who do you think they are going to support on the Republican side as an alternative? |
Either he doesn't understand or he's being disingenuous. If he really thinks groups like this on the establishment, well, that just reinforces stereotypes of him as a white man who doesn't get it. |
Leaving aside whether your argument is valid, if Sanders is the nominee who do you think these groups are going to support as an alternative on the Republican side? They will either support him or not vote. Unless you think they are going to vote for Trump or Cruz! |
It's not a question of voting for him alone. Do you really not get it? Planned Parenthood was the subject of a recent terrorist attack. Republicans continually try to cripple it. Labeling as "establishment" an organization that provides healthcare for many poor women and women of color is just plain stupid if you're a Democrat, and it's also completely counter to the message that you want to reduce inequality. This was not a fight he needed to pick. He just did it because he's pissed off that he didn't get these endorsements. |
You are way over-reacting.............. |
Sanders - had the balls to stand up to both parties and voted against the Iraq war.
HRC - was a sheep. Sanders' FP insight is a shitload more accurate than HRC's. Foreign Policy chops is completely measured in the wrong way. give me foreign policy accuracy - sanders has been more accurate in his career than HRC, and that makes him the FP genius between the two. |

Judgement > "Experience". |
Please! Hillary has earned the moniker of "disingenuous" which is why over 60% of voters think she she is dishonest. |
The Hillary backers seem to be in panic mode! |
You think? The organizations sure don't seem to think so. It's all over the press, especially after a spokesman decided to double down on it this morning. With the Elizabeth Warren hanging out there, this was dumb. |
I just looked up what he said and it seems like he's talking more about the people that many people involved in these organizations are establishment politicians. I don't think he was attacking the work of the groups themselves, but I agree it was an unfair statement and I hope it is not reflective of his beliefs. |
Obviously he's not attacking the work of the groups themselves. He'd take their endorsements in a heartbeat and has competed for all of them. He's angry that he didn't get them, so he tries to dismiss their importance by calling them "establishment" groups. All he's done is piss off the many grassroots organizers associated with those groups, and lead journalists to point out that a guy who is served 25 years and Congress is very much part of the establishment, even if that's not his brand. Plus it reinforces the perception that he's a "brogessive." Just watch. He'll probably do something like introduce legislation to repeal the Hyde amendment in order to make amends. And he's 25 years in Congress he's never introduced a single bill about abortion or women's health - that's part of why he did not get the PPAct nod in the first place - but what do you want to bet he'll do that now? |
I'm still prepared to vote for someone whose policies make the most sense to the most people. I'm very disappointed that other big American political entities aren't ready to take that leap, too. |
