Yes, the Duke players were falsely accused of committing a crime. They were NOT, however, falsely accused of engaging in immoral behavior. The behavior that they acknowledged engaging in should be critized itself. Your comment reflects the very unfortunate overeaction of the many knee jerk liberals who jumped too far too quickly based on partial facts. BTW. I am a liberal, but I try to think first. |
I thought the satirical nature of my post was obvious. Guess not. So, PP, now you know. It was critical of Landon (as the word "scandals" suggests). Notwithstanding that, the Duke case did involve perjury on the part of the accuser--a fact fair- minded people will acknowledge. |
| Prep and Landon parents ought to stick together--put any school under a microscope and some of what you see will not be appealing. We had to make a Landon/Prep choice. Our considerations were a respect for catholic values--we're Catholic, vs. a desire to have our son exposed to kids who were not all Catholic. We were impressed with the array of different kinds of kids you find at Landon, the fact that a Muslim kid had been class president of one class year after year, and that Jewish kids were long made to feel welcome there. We were also impressed that Landon now had Friday fish choices available during Lent. The other thing we did was look up the participation rate of alumni giving. It's a good measure of how alumni continue to feel about the value of their education at a particular school. |
| You could easily get rejected at Prep and get into Landon or vice versa depending on whether or not you are a legacy or a lot of legacies are crowding out spaces that year for the non-legacy candidate. Our kid was wait-listed at STA (subsequently admitted, and got into Landon and Prep. His best friend applied to Landon and STA (dad was a STA alumnus) and got in there and was rejected at Landon. We are talking ninth grade here in one case, middle school in the other--the boys were applying from outside both schools for these slots. The kid rejected at Landon was brilliant--there just were a lot of legacies that year. Landon's loss. |
| Prep doesn't seem to give too much about the arts programs. hence the million dollars they have invested in the Hanley Center. |
You must be kidding. Have you seen their theater? I think they built it the same time they created the athletic center. Gorgeous. |
|
Prep's arts program is not on the same level as Landon. Have you seen Landons art gallery which displays the works of upper and middle school students. Its quite impressive.
Landon US Band and Strings program are two of the top programs in the state of Maryland - this is a fact for anyone who follows music. Both Landon's strings and band have won numerous competitions in MD and NYC. |

So Prep kids were on the Duke LAX team? George H went to Mater Dei? The Smoothy King robbers went to Whitman? The kid that was convicted of stock piling guns and attempting to car-jack an elderly man went to Woods? Where did the BB gun kid go....STA? The sexting kids are middle schoolers at Pyle. Does anyone see a trend here? bad kids can go to any school. It is not the school. It starts at home.
|
| Unlike the rest of the boys in PP's parade of horribles, BB gun kid was simply stupid, not bad. |
Can't wait for a Landon Band scandal to hit the fan. Like the nerdy girl from the American Pie move... "Oh and this one time at band camp, I stuck a flute in my X*##y." |
Because sexual exploration is scandalous? |
Are you serious? |
| What's Georgetown Prep's tuition? I can't find it on their web site? |

I thought Catholic schools tended to be less expensive. Georgetown Prep is as high as any of the others! What gives? |
