Georgetown Prep?

It is Jesuit, not Catholic.

Isn't jesuit a type of catholic?
Anonymous
Yes, it is.

Jesuit refers to an order of priests. The order was founded by St. Ignatius Loyola, and runs schools and universities around the world. Jesuit does not refer to a "type" of Catholic, although Jesuits are Catholic.

I went to prep in the '70's. Best experience, and hardest next to medical school, of my life

It used to be 90%+ of Mater Dei boys went to Prep (or seemingly appeared to be). Nowadays? Probably no more than 50%. It used to be unheard of for many MD kids to go to Landon or Gonzaga. Gonzaga, in particular, is much more attractive for many families, the 50% cheaper price tag being the primary driver.

Your time horizon is too short. Your 90% number is way off base. It varies year to year, but Gonzaga has many years gotten quite a few MD boys (Up to 10) going back to to the 1980's at least. This increase in the number of Mater Dei kids going to Gonzaga isn't a recent trend. The anomaly has been years where a large number of Mater Dei kids go to GP. Ned Williams and Chris have had for many years tell parents that "MD isn't prep for Prep" so their expectations were brought in line with reality.

The big difference between the 1990's and the early 2000's is that it used to be that GP just wouldn't accept that many MD students. New they'll accept more but the parents are looking for a better deal and finding it in Eye Street.

Very few Mater Dei kids go to Landon. That's a true rarity and there's generally a story behind it.

Did you read my post? I said SEEMINGLY 90%. There's no doubt that more and more kids (and not just from MD) are applying to Gonzaga, as this economy makes the math very easy to digest.

Gonzaga applications are going through the roof. They have a perfect storm - very strong school and community, very good athletics, and a price that is right compared to most of the competition.

How does someone outside the admissions office know "applications are through the roof?" People say that every year for multiple schools. I think it is always a lot of hearsay/grapevine.
