Supreme Court rules Trump's emergency tariffs are illegal

I'll just wait here for people to retract all that shit about corrupt SCOTUS etc.

Of course SCOTUS will be corrupt again when people disagree with it.

The SCOTUS isn't perfect by any means but the Judicial Branch is far, far less corrupt than the bought out tools in Congress and now Trump has made our Executive Branch rotten too.

Eh, there were 3 justices who dissented.

Half the conservatives just voted with their pocket books this time. That’s still corruption.

I was watching a cable show and the “guest” commentator referred to Kavanaugh comment on how complicated refunds would be. They said oh it’s billions of dollars and the money has been earmarked or spent. This is laughable. The money was collected illegally and has to be returned.

Every dollar if tariff collected has a paper trail.
In the simple case, the tariffed item was a finished good, but, in many cases, the tariffed item was incorporated in some other good, and so, on, until an actual finished good was produced. E.g. a tariffed GPU might have ended up sold to the ultimate consumer, or on some graphics card that incorporated 30 other chips then sold to the consumer, or in a supercomputer along with thousands of other GPUs. And intermediaries along the way.

And all have a paper trail. Everything is tracked - the item, who paid the tariff, etc. This is like saying the IRS and each tax payer does not know how much taxes they pay each year. It is not complicated.
Exactly, and refunds can be given through the same systems. None of these tariffs was paid in cash. There are records: what the government charged, and who paid the bill

This was a clear cut case, they knew it was illegal. They sat on it because they knew the whole issue of refunds would be a problem.

Costco and others who filed lawsuits prior to the ruling will have a head start on receiving refunds.

That’s pretty stupid, even for a maga.

Even the corrupt members sometimes run out of excuses and are cornered into following the law when it’s too blatant or when it affects the money people.

He is citing a different law.

Except post-tariff consumers paid the bill, or much of it, as the cost was forwarded as an increased price at the register. Inflation, remember?

Please demonstrate how the broad public so impacted are to be made whole, and how those having directly paid the tariff would not achieve double gain, first from the increased sales price captures and then from the full reimbursement of the tariff.

It’s absolute chaos in the rest of the world, experts across the globe declaring that this new tariff also appears to be illegal. If imposed, it faces being reversed after another lengthy legal investigation - and what if the trade deals struck?
Meanwhile, goods are on their way to the USA, what tariffs will the USA citizens have to pay for those goods?

This.

I don't think Americans fully grasp how chaotic trump is making economics and business work worldwide. Investment is down and trade is down because Trump is a moron.

the courts didn't help by allowing the tariffs to take effect while these cases worked their way through the courts. They really should have been subject to injunction.

SCOTUS is totally corrupt. Anyone with any legal knowledge understands this.
