Random question - what about tariffs that are in limbo?

I ordered something from Europe. It got delivered yesterday by Fedex. My understand with Fedex, is that they pay the tariffs on your behalf, and then send you a bill after the fact.

So... is Fedex going to still send me a bill? Do I tell them to get the government to reimburse them? Do I still have to pay them?

The issue is that Trump is notoriously tight fisted. He won't allow the US Treasury to issue refunds.

What did Trump do a businessman? He settled for pennies on the dollar with those to whom he owed money.

I suspect lots of litigation for companies to only end up getting a fraction of what they paid in tariffs.

Actually most of the refund process will be very orderly. Wall Street investors bought up most claims greater than $10k. It's how many businesses weathered the largest tax increase in US history.

You don't have a claim against the government (probably). The importer paid the government. You paid the importer or customs broker. You need to take it up with them.

I think Alito and Thomas at least claim to be originalists. It's kind of hard to claim to not understand Article 1, Section 7, Clause 1. It's not exactly ambigious. So I'm curious to know the pretzel logic in their dissent.

Kavanaugh just likes beer. I still want to know who paid off his debts.
