As to the first question posed - whether girls have been favored or just put their heads down and have worked, uh, it's the latter. And any cursory review of the facts will bear that out over and over. If we had favored women then we'd have at least 50% representation in Congress, in board rooms, as CEOs, law partners, etc.

So I have a real problem with blaming boys' lack of progress on girls. I could write an entire essay on what I think the causes are, but girls aren't it.

I think there are people blaming girls and the way we’ve allegedly changed society to accommodate them.

I’m in my 50s and I do policy work on social justice type issues that include things like poverty, and some of his work tracks with what I’ve researched, read, and observed firsthand working with experts in the US and abroad.

I recall seeing him on some show in recent years (maybe with Bill Maher?) where one of his key talking points is that the most successful people are always out. You can’t make friends, find a partner, network, and be happy if you are always at home. That was such an obvious thing to say but again it underscores a big issue with Americans in 2025 (and it started before covid).

Anyway, I think he’s flagging a lot of real issues supported by facts and data.

I’m a 50 year old homebody and even I need the reminder that you have to get outside your house to live life. So thanks, as I type this from while wearing a work shirt on top and sweatpants off camera.

Oh not you again. Whatever criticism the patriarchal system we've had for centuries got over the last 40 years, was well deserved. Normal, sane, educated men understand the criticism and don't see themselves in those criticisms, but rather uplift their wives and daughters. You, a man who can't compete with women, see yourself as persecuted because the old way benefited you disproportionately. In other words, women fighting for equal rights is not mysandry. You just can't stad that women want to be equal.

Ultimately marrying a spouse with whom you can have a good solid and financial partnership and understanding (whatever shape in terms of work and gender that means: reverse roles, same sex..) is actually great advice. Some men are actually great stay at home dads too.

I think the point is that's the bar men are expected to reach. Among women who are looking for husbands.

Around page 8 someone noted that in a typical group of 15yo, half the boys are idiots and the girls could be junior senators, but actually only half could. The other half are flakes. We're comparing the half who are junior senators to all boys.

My dad was a far better parent and householder than my mom -- it's how I learned that all the myths about men not being great at doing that stuff was total bs. He also worked full time, so I also learned that is possible as well.
