Tough matchup with FC Dallas but we will see if RU can make it home again to the round of 8 for the third time in 4 years.

Regarding VDA, one of their key players also suffered an injury - not sure at what point in the game but that didn’t help their chances either.

Was beginning of 2nd half. Would not have made a difference anyway. Maybe next year.

Nope. Clubs keep dismantling teams by bringing outside player but soccer is a team game. You need to develop the team and stick with a style of play based on your players strengths.

What if your team's coach plays to one players strengths and ignores the other 10 on the field + 6 on the bench?

You really think it’s the coach that runs that age group? Think again.

What the heck happened to the 2012 team?

lol. It’s the same coach as the 2009s. The guy made sure to have the best teams at NVA then went to Richmond and made sure he had the best teams. RU 09 has always been a great team and has been to Richmond 3 of 4 years as pp stated.

Didn’t Richmond 2009 finish 5th in the Mid Atlantic last year?

Great improvement.

This is exactly what happened at both league power houses VDA and CSA. Too many new faces on the roster versus developing their players. Short term gains to be top league play (teams they’re familiar with) but cannot compete at a national level due to lack of actual soccer development and synergy.

VDA 09 added 4 players. That’s hardly “too many” new faces. VDA 09 made the round of 16 the last 2 years but came to SD unprepared this year. VDA 08 is into the elite 8 with a bunch of new faces and 10s have a chance tomorrow. Hopefully BP sits down and lets the real coaches coach. He can take photos.

Tough bracket for them and also didn’t perform well.

Their best player was in Seattle playing with the RU boys.

they are literally happy to be there. Tlhey are soaking up the experience

In fairness, they only got blown out in 1 game. I expected worse before I looked at the results.

Soaking up the experience they didn't perform well and we need to justify $1000s spent. What a joke. Club soccer is a big scam subsidized by the government.

It's a waste of money because they didn't perform well? But if they had won more games that would have justified the money spent? You, sir, are exactly what's wrong with youth sports.

It’s a team sport and not performing on a national platform is a result of not playing as a team. Some coaches are so hungry for a win, they lose touch with what matters. They advance certain kids for the wrong reasons. PP stating this isn’t what’s wrong with greedy club soccer. In actuality nothing more than rec soccer of yesterday.

Soccer clubs are a business. It's their job to cater to their customers, to retain and attract new customers. It is not their job to put their best team forward and play as a team like a professional club. The players join the team so they can attend ECNL events and showcase their skills in front of college coaches with the goal of getting recruited to play in college. ECNL is a college showcase platform and the only way to participate is to join a club team. We pay $1000s for the showcase opportunities not for team performance.

I’m sure your child will be in the portal after the first year….if they make it.

What a disaster. This team had real potential. Who were the four added players? I’m pretty sure no explanation was provided the other players why they had to endure this.

Those players were added in August. They aren’t new. It’s the same roster that played all year.

Honest question, how are they underprepared if they are training and scrimmaging throughout the spring as documented by their social media?

What the heck happened to the 2012 team?

They didn't have their ringer that plays with them sometimes. You can see it in their scores during league play.

Some teams had easy groups, ECNL favors a couple of clubs in VA. It’d be bad if none of these clubs made the finals. You bet!

Richmond United and ECNL share staff. It’s no coincidence that if Richmond has a strong team, they somehow end up with a good draw. They don’t waste it on the mediocre teams, but if there is a really good Richmond team, like 09s, expect see to see a soft draw.

Based on what happened with PDA, I would be complaining. She's only allowed to play on one team.
