Overlee Crash & Burn

It is our neighborhood pool and my friends and my kids friends are there. The only thing I would change if I could is the swim team. Pass.

I should clarify I’m at one of the big three D1 pools.

Are you a parent of a kid on the swim team or the parent of a swim team aged kid? Curious if this is from the inside or outside looking in with the perspective of "most of us think it is insane."

I am a swim team parent. My kid swims A meets so not just sour grapes. I could give a crap if our team ever dropped out of D1 or loses a meet.

It may not be tame and easygoing, but welcome to Division 1, folks. This has been blown out of proportion. In a couple years if OKM is still strong in the division, they will adjust. Chesterbrook has always been intense, Overlee has as well. Tuckahoe has now in recent years adopted this intensity. The teams do it in different ways, but when you are a top dog in the top division, this is how it goes. It is not Division 12, or Division 7, or even Division 2. It's Division 1, and people are pretty set in the intensity and culture around summer swim in D1.

Everyone will be fine, take a breath and have some fun with it. Once you've been around it for a few years you know that it's all a good time and very competitive. Let the kids grow up and experience it, my God.

Overlee parent here, late to the chat. This sums up just about everything. If you folks had been in D1 a couple years ago, you would be windblown. In recent years, the NVSL has created new rules, all of which are followed by all teams. If you are upset about skits and splashing, D1 may not be the place for you. But, you guys have stepped up your game and deserve to be here, so welcome.

Eye roll. This is what I’m talking about. I am the PP who says D1 is cringe. This idea that everyone wants to be “us” and how lucky you are to be a part of it! Condescending and clueless. Typical.

What in the world is everyone talking about? It's FUN. Truly. There have been few instances where it has gotten *actually* out of hand, but the splashing water is really where we are drawing the line this year? Wow. I don't care what division you're in, complaining about trivial stuff like that just shows you who needs to get the stick out of their behinds.

OKM didn’t refuse recognition of seniors they just requested the senior recognition portion take place after the last relay. Starting the meet with 30min of stories and honors isn’t fair for the visiting team and honestly isn’t fair for the actual senior swimmers before they have to race.

Most importantly the demonic themes (punisher face paint and banners everywhere), scary rabid bunny costume and full body gorilla costume in the skit with violent undertones 100% needs to stop, step up NVSL. CB-Do this at your Friday pep-rally if you like this weird stuff. Why make the visiting team go through this if you truly are all about the competition & sportsmanship. It actually discounts your swimming talent and CB parents should step up to change this culture for the better.

Side note, credit to CB (reps/parents) for honoring OKM seniors and giving flowers to them at the DJ table. Very unexpected and a nice display of sportsmanship after the 15-18 boys splash incident and before the stupid skit antics.

The OKM Osprey’s almost got you and (on behalf of many on the chat) boy it would have been sweet! See you at RC!

As a viewer who was there, you clearly weren't. The seniors were honored after the skit and so-called splashing incident. Their seniors nearly refused to accept the roses. CB always does their ceremony at the end, and typically, the other team will stay to honor them. OKM left immediately, refusing to even listen to the beginning of the ceremony

In all seriousness, why should another team have to stay to “listen to the beginning” of your senior celebration?

Um, I was there and an OKM parent. This is and will be my only post as I don't know what happened with most of these posts and therefore won't comment cause this is all nuts. But I will say our 4 seniors were honored to be recognized and thought it was sweet.

Say whatever you want about the rest, but they definitely thought it was nice to receive the flowers.

If you run the virtual meet based on last week’s results, CB wins by 24 points.
