If you shut down, effectively, POTUS has all power until negotiated open. In this case, Trump does not care so it's going to be forever before govt open and at that, it could look however Trump wants to look.

It's not just what people think about negotiating and Dems sticking it to GOO or fighting for the people. You shut down, you are done!

Keep it open and let Trump mess things up. That's the smart play.

NO, congress has power. Let them use it.

Omg you idiot GOP has House and Senate majority. It's why really effectively Trump has power. I'm not sure why you don't see Congress is in his pocket? That's the whole point Chuck doesn't want to shut down cause why knows when you can reopen you idiot!!

DP you are an idiot. 8 democrats senators voted in favor of DOGE, all of the firings and project 2025. Either fight or go join maga.

They literally voted against DOGE, the firing, and against Project 2025. Do you know what a CR is?

Unlike you, Trump, and Congressional Republicans, Senate Democrats know what the law is, and know that a (barely) functioning government is more important than creating more chaos (chaos that is exactly what Trump wants).

Neat. What does that get us?

DP. A court opinion saying that cutting USAID funding violated the constitution, two TROs rescinding unlawful firings, a PI (I think?) against a de facto unconstitutional bill of attainder, etc. That's just this week.

There will be more.

Cutting USAID makes us weak on the world stage. Trump is truly a fool.

Nope. Senate Democrats got us none of that. Quit gaslighting.

An open government got us this. Next time, an open government will get us more.

It's not like Republicans are at 59 votes and Schumer decides it.

It was 8 people. You don’t get cover at that small a number and especially not on something that the entire house dem caucus stayed together on and plenty of people both in the senate and in the base are against. If you want to be a line wolf than have the courage to stand alone. Especially when one of the eight is retiring.

No Chuck needs to GO!

Not one confirmation was fought. This is the first time in history a president got all of his nominees through the senate. Schumer and all these other must go.

That's what happens when the President has a majority in the Senate, genius.

FIRST TIME IN HISTORY, genius. You people are so effing stupid and you'll be the death of us all.

Hence why No on the CR makes the most sense. People need to snap to attention and passing the CR just gives Trump more power through legal means. It’s just delaying the inevitable. Americans collectively need to get hit on the head ASAP.

You think that people, who currently support Trump, will blame Trump if Democrats intentionally shut down the government with the express intent of hurting those people?
Think, a little.

Democrats would NOT be shutting down the government! They simply wouldn't be helping the Republicans. The Republicans are in the majority. Passing a budget is there job. If they dont have enough votes to pass it on their own, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO NEGOTIATE. The dems required nothing of them, not a single concession. They didn't require them to negotiate. They simply rolled over. They are NOT fighting for us or this democracy. The sooner some of you realize this, the sooner we can start to fight. There is no excuse for this.

Republicans love to tout merit based promotion yet they can't manage to pass bills that have enough merit to pass without threats and coercion.

However, they were upset that their base would be mad at them and they would lose reelection.
Schumer asked the safest Senators to vote for cloture to protect these other members from the base. These people who voted for cloture won't lose their seats if some angry Democrats vote against them.

Hmm. And not listening to voters worked out so well for the Dems in the last election.

The Democrats do not have the leverage, because Republicans want less government and are not as upset by a government shutdown. That is just DOGE on steroids.
Republicans do not have to negotiate. This one guy wrote a book about the person with the most leverage is the one who is willing to walk away from the table.

Shouting the government down never hurt Rs anyone for dozens of times they’ve done it.

Schumer bent the knee. He is complicit.

It did hurt them. That's why Republicans eventually agreed to end the shutdown, usually with nothing gained.

Trump wants to shut down government.

The CR makes Trump's illegal shutdown activities continuing illegal, instead of giving him the elimination of funding that he wants.

The House Democrats were being coy with their protest votes No, because their votes DID NOT MATTER at all. They couldn't shut down government, so they could put on of show of pretending they wanted to shut it down.

Trump and the Rs are doing a fine job turning the whole country against them with their mismanagement, CE or not.

Rs will pass laws to rein in or mpeach Trump (unlikely) or face backlash at reelection time. This is what is possible within the laws governing Congress.

The rest of the resistance has to happen to outside Congress, in the streets and at Tesla dealerships.

But then the messaging should have been “Trump s breaking the law. We are going to keep him accountable”

Don’t Harris raise $1B? Can’t the Dems hire some good messengers or did MaGA snatch them all up?

I live in a solidly blue state so my vote doesn’t matter but I have no problem voting 3rd party now.

Are you going to dump the other nine Senators too?

Bigger question, Schumer wins his primary against AOC(she won't run but bear with me)
then are you going to vote for Schumer or let the Republican win?

There was a study showing that yes, indeed, people were going to blame it on the GOP. Schumer is an idiot and deserves to be axed. He’s lost.

I told the DNC today that all the money I was going to spend to primary GOP candidates will now be spent to primary these Dems. They didn’t listen to their constituents. I told them this before the vote and wrote the same to Schumer.

That's why they have no leverage. Because everyone knows they aren't willing to walk away. They should've walked away.

So say you. LET THE REPUBLICANS SENATORS DESTROY THE COUNTRY WITHOUT HELP!

They have no leverage because they have no leverage.

You are either delusional or working for the GOP.
