It is a 100% real question. So far no one has able to list what freedoms he is stripping away, and then subsequently backing it up. Can you do that? Or are you calling troll because you can’t?

I love how, when called out on their lies, they splutter and lie some more. Not a huge fan of Trump, but there are no rights he's taking away from anyone. How ludicrous, but I guess this is all the left has to try and convince their low-information voters.

Many women no longer have the right to healthcare.

That's all on Trump.

You can yakety yak all you like, but we here all know the truth.

Many women no longer have the right to healthcare????

So many women can no longer see doctors, get prescriptions filled, have medical tests and treatments, be admitted to hospitals??? How did I miss that?

Right?!? I somehow missed that too. Was it on CNN? The NYT? WSJ? Apple News? Anyone cover this breaking story?

Plenty of stories about pregnant women bleeding out, going septic and almost dying because of Trump, sicko.

Trump did that.

Holy hell the Supreme Court did that.

+100 Abortion is a state issue not a federal one. What exactly do you think Trump is going to do if reelected? It is up to the states now which is where it should have been in the first place.

Slavery is a state issue, too, AMIRITE?

Maybe you’ve never been to the doctor before but most healthcare is state run and abortion is a healthcare issue therefore a federal abortion ban isn’t even possibly as healthcare is state run and all the blue states obviously wouldn’t allow it. The so called blue wave that happened in 2022 in red states means women already voted on the abortion issue and chose their preferred state representatives and therefore this election won’t be a referendum on abortion like Kamala and her supporters delusionally believe.

Kamala can’t do anything if the Supreme Court remains red. She will need to nominate and make sure 2 judges are confirmed.

Liberals need to lay the blame at RBG for not resigning and Obama for not pushing Merrick by using the bully pulpit and social media to bash Republicans (even Trump does this well). Obama didn’t Adt like he was the boss in Washington but like Republicans were his manager.

All Trump did was his due diligence as a President and to his voters by selecting two conservative pro-life judges. He did what he said and what he promised as a thank you to his voters even though he obviously doesn’t personally agree.

Abortion will be a huge driver for women and the youth to the polls. It's delusional and cope to think otherwise. That's why Trump is currently hiding from the issue.

Once again he has said the same thing in recent interviews including the debate with Biden it is now up to the STATES!! Seriously what do you not understand? Trump has said it is where it should have always been.....the states and for the people to decide. If Trump gets reelected nothing will change on this. If Kamala gets elected nothing will change on this. Get it? The Democrats love to dangle this issue like a carrot for women. Meanwhile we have a Democratic President in office now. Why isn't he doing anything if you think this is a federal issue?

Why do you think this is a states issue? Are there examples of other medical treatments being outlawed in one state vs. another?

I can see how a trusting and optimistic voter might have looked at the Dobbs decision and concluded it would now be a states issues.

Except the right wing immediately— immediately— started trying to put together a national ban. In September of 2022 they were rolling out a 15 week national ban. They have showed us what they want and we would be foolish to believe that changed.

Because the Dobbs decision didn’t leave the issue up to the states, it left it up to “the people and their representatives” which includes Congress.

I totally agree. I just mean the bad faith “OMG ITS A STATES ISSUE” posters need to explain why the republicans tripped over themselves to try to pass a federal ban in 2022 if this was understood to be a states issue.

It’s no secret to anyone that Roe was the best thing to ever happen to Republican fundraising. A national abortion ban has been their North Star goal, and chief wedge issue, for nearly 50 years, medical science and the views of women notwithstanding. Dobbs was absolutely a victory for them regardless of whether it achieved the goal.

Relevant to this thread, though, the president can do very little to take it the rest of the way; as noted, this is up to Congress, SCOTUS, and voters.

So all of this bickering doesn’t answer the question: what rights might Donald Trump personally be able to and likely to remove? Conversely, what rights might Kamala Harris personally be able to and likely to restore?

Not abortion, obviously.

It's untrue that Trump can't and won't do immediate damage to abortion rights.

He can ban mifepristone from being shipped via the Comstock Act with a stroke of a pen.

He can also declare IUDs and birth control pills as abortifacients, and ban those as well.

DP. Except that’s exactly the opposite of what his platform states. Nice try.

https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24795052/2024-gop-platform-july-7-final.pdf

Please quote where he says he will protect IUDs and birth control pills and mifepristone. "Birth control" can mean natural family planning.

And the elephant in the room is he does call for a ban, on “late term” abortions, without saying what that means. I’ve heard DCUM forced birthers say that’s any time after 12 weeks.

What his platform states? Please. He probably has no clue what his platform states and even if he did, it means nothing. Remember he droned on and on about building a wall and mexico will pay for it. What a load of crap.

All that matters to voters is that he hit them hard with the destruction of their reproductive rights and there is no way he gets another chance to do more damage. He trashed roe and that better be enough for him because he is done.

Why would anyone get an abortion after they’re already showing?

You think getting an abortion at 20 weeks is ok? Babies are increasingly viable and surviving at 5 month premature birth.

I think 12 weeks is far better than the proposed five to six weeks or eight week bans which is absolutely ridiculous. At three months pregnant, you had to have figured out you’re pregnant by then through 2 missed periods and morning sickness etc.

+ 1

And the elephant in the room is he does call for a ban, on “late term” abortions, without saying what that means. I’ve heard DCUM forced birthers say that’s any time after 12 weeks.

1. Not everybody has consistent periods
2. Not everybody has morning sickness (I certainly didn't)
3. Not everybody shows by 3 months (I didn't)
4. Anatomy scan is around 18-22 weeks. I know anti-abortion conservatives who ended up getting an abortion at that point because it revealed a fatal cardiac abnormality and didn't want to carry it for another 20 weeks to watch it die. PS, the experience made them switch to supporting abortion rights and lamenting the overturn of roe vs. wade? Note that the mother's health was not in jeopardy so conservative GOP folks would have forced the mother to carry it the remaining 20 weeks to watch it die, against her will and freedom to choose.

I think this is a pretty big clue as to why folks like you are unfortunately driving all this new policy.

What’s a pretty big clue? Abortion bans already exist. After the first trimester or beginning of the second trimester, abortion is banned unless in emergency cases. Even liberal places like Canada and Europe have abortion bans after a certain amount of time.

How do you not know you can’t just walk into a clinic and get an elective abortion while you’re 5-6 months pregnant? In most places, you’ve passed the deadline

Well sure, let's combine a 12 week ban with increasingly limited access to care, misinformation, and complete disregard for women's health. Its the perfect combination to get women pregnant, limit their ability to access care and information on their pregnancies until it's too late to do anything about it, and hey if a bunch of women end up infertile/dead/traumatized because they didn't get the information that they needed in time, all the better right? Because f'em.

Yes. 20 weeks was when my sister had to terminate her desperately wanted second child because they discovered— at the 20 week scan— a birth defect which would have let the baby live only a handful of excruciating hours.

Trump is a serial liar. It just doesn't matter what his platform says. It really doesn't.

So you’re going to just keep claiming he’s stripping all Americans of their rights because no one can ever prove otherwise? Despite things he’s said and news articles and his platform itself?

I mean just be honest. Say “I hate him so I’m not voting for him.” Stop trotting out all these other baseless claims (and yes they are baseless - just because you don’t trust him is not actual proof).

Nice try.

You won’t tell us which of these is true. He said he’d support a 15 week ban.
He said he’d support a 20 week ban.
His platform says he opposes late term abortion without saying what that means.
His Vice President pick called for a Federal response for women traveling for abortion care.

So which version is true? And how do you know?

Who goes through eight or nine months of pregnancy and decides for an elective (not emergency) abortion?

Generally nobody but Trump spouts on about afterbirth abortions.

The reason for the lack of restriction is because defining specific scenarios where abortion is allowed vs. not "for the health of the mother" has already proven to be very faulty; increases the danger for the mother while carrying a potentially nonviable fetus, waiting for a mother to get "sick enough" and not knowing if the local (not medically trained) prosecutor's office will agree if the woman was "sick enough". How much risk is allowed and how do you define it? 30%? 50%? 75%? Every clinical situation is different and unlikely to be adequately covered in a legal document.

Your fear about elective late term abortions means nonelective late term abortions that are needed don't happen and puts women at increasing risk. You literally sacrifice women's lives through legislation.

PS Canada doesn't have restriction on abortion and they seem to do fine.

It is a 100% real question. So far no one has able to list what freedoms he is stripping away, and then subsequently backing it up. Can you do that? Or are you calling troll because you can’t?

I mean you can continue to do that, but it doesn’t make you look too good if when confronted with contrary evidence to your claim you just keep saying “he’s lying.” Once again, this is your opinion, not fact.
