That is part of the school's history, they educated African American, when many northern schools refused to, with the first black graduate in 1826, also General Sherman, the one who burned down confederate Atlanta graduated from the school after the civil war

think you got your facts a little off, that student was named after the general, but the student you are referring to was a black student, but i get the point

Amherst is super overpriced - 100K, a year

The black students at Amherst are heavy 420 users, and wouldn't fit in with ivy league culture,
I actually thought Obama would send Malia there, when she was going through a phase, but Malia's personality did a 180 and she went to Harvard

Princeton's history is Presbyterian but no one has cared too much about that for 100 years. Who chooses Princeton in 2024 because of the Synod? Nobody, of course

I have news for you about Ivy League black students if you want to criticize amherst/lac black students for weed lmao.

Reminds me of when I left my dorm last year at 2 am and heard a group of black upperclassmen yell “we should do acid more often!”

Most black enrollment at these top schools is strangely capped at 8%, even though first year black enrollment has been 15 -20% for years

Black people come to our country from countries all over the world. If you are fifth generation French who’s Black you describe yourself as French, not African.

thats the reason to use it. to refer to blacks ie black americans. i generally hate the term, too many syllables, but it is used for a purpose here

to nitpick, black is really a term gor
slave descendents but the meaning has expanded due to misuse

who in their right mind is paying $55,000 a year for a DC private, then pay ivy league prices at an HBCU, that is underfunded, where you have to live with mold, rats, and roaches

Just like most of the Ivy League, Georgetown and UVA!

Morehouse / Spelman send more black students to Harvard professional schools than any Ivy League school
