I’ve heard of several people who have never had covid and just got it with this strain. I think you can get the anti-viral without a prescription from pharmacist. Check on cvs website. You have to take it within first few days of symptoms for it to help though.

Over the sample period, 8625 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 and 2647 for seasonal influenza

Death rate for COVID-19 was 5.70% and death rate for influenza was 4.25% at the 30 day mark.

COVID is still leading to increased hospitalization but the death rate continues to drop and is not that much higher than the flu anymore.

So if you are taking precautions for one virus, you should take precautions for all.

I have a question about viral load I’ll add to this thread. My husband currently has bad case of Covid (he tested positive on Monday) and has been staying in basement. I just tested positive but have very mild case. Is it okay to be around him now that I’m positive or could he potentially get me worse?

You will get worse tomorrow. I was fine yesterday when I tested; now I feel like all my bones and muscles are broken. I don't think he can get you more sick at this point.

I would not. When we all had Covid, with varying levels of severity, we asked our doctor this question. I thought they would say it was fine to unmask, but they didn't say that at all. Told us to avoid each other and mask around each other so as not to add to each other's viral load.

This was a year ago, so there's a chance advice is different now? But at least ask your doctor before assuming it's ok.
