Your just repeating the same unsubstantiated points without addressing the facts. You've made claims without numbers. You can't claim UMd has more world changing inventions when you don't even know anything about the 1400+ (campared to 432 from UMd) inventions cited from Va Schools. As far as the cases you've cited: Huguely is a Maryland resident. Nuff said. W&M cases involves three unfortunate individuals. My heart goes out their families. Much like it did to that of Len Bias. VA Tech tragedy was the result of one mentally ill individual. College Park riots are a near annual event involving significant portions of the student body. How many fires were set when the Field Hockey team won this week? Store windows broken? Beatings? Obscenities chanted at the game? None? Thank God. That's progress in College Park, but basketball season is coming so get ready. |

Right all those athletes at UMd are taking physics, chemistry and engineering! Quick check on MD athletics site reveals "Letters and Science" major. Caught again. |

In the ACC, Georgia Tech is the premier engineering school. UMd isn't close. You clearly don't have clue about other ACC schools' inventions. |

| Ok......look up the top ten inventions or contributions made by Uva AND Ga Tech grads in the last hundred years. Umd blows them away. Of course you probably have to use google to do it! Huguely never even considered Umd he's the kind that go to Uva(preppy, mean, not too bright, dream of performing title searches, angry, frustrated). The poor student abducted and murdered from Uva campus is another example. And yes the student who massacred 33 students and wounded others was one person. Unfortunately the other student at va tech who decapitated his schoolmate is. Different person. As far as W@M I also feel bad for them but that place simply seems like no fun and they foster an unhealthy atmosphere in my opinion Len Bias was a generation ago but since you bring it up Lenny wasn't depressed he was just drafted 3rd by the Celtics. Lenny overdosed celebrating with his friends the way immature college students did back then (hello 60s 70 s and 80s). He is now an icon among African Americans much like Hendrix, Marley do to his astounding ability and potential lost. I never flinch talking about Lenny part of me still loves him. Nobody will ever say that about the current incidents all over Virginia. You are Totally right about letters and sciences I have never seen that major before at Umd...I stand corrected and am disappointed that Umd has taken up this shoddy Uva method of graduating athletes. As far as patent numbers ...anybody can patent anything (Paris Hilton patented the phrase " That's hot!". Storming the streets is healthy college fun I want to be there next time, the students play cat and mouse with the police and some police went too far. I can guarantee there will be no Virginia style abductions, coeds in a pool of blood or decapitaions at Umd. |

| Ga Tech is a fine school...hardly any big inventions. Ties Umd with 2 nobels but one went to Jimmy Carter having nothing to do with science. Gets 84% less federal research funding than Umd. Lots of astronauts. Not nearly as many household names as Umd produces. Pretty average in sports. Doesn't seem like much fun- Whatever. |

I read the GW article. 270 in a lecture hall course. College Park has too many odd sports riots. D1 schools with BS majors and $$$ for non-income producing programs are crap. Remember UVA gave scholarship $ to Huguely and Love?
At all schools financial aid should be based on need or academics no outright cash gifts for sports. It's enough that they get in with a hook...... |
