Nope. That shows you this isn’t happening.

There are two upcoming community meetings at Hughes MS and Frost MS to discuss this. The company they hired will run the meetings. We got no notice of it until now and have conflicts. Hopefully Simone can go and report back.

This should say someone.

The Hughes MS meeting is at 6 pm on Monday, 5/20 and there is one at Frost MS on Wed, 5/22 also at 6 pm.

We attended the virtual meeting and it sounds like the only thing that is holding them back is the bus situation. If someone can solve that problem, it's a done deal.

They aren’t solving the bus situation. It will probably stay because of that.

Cwnt believe they are wasting money on co sultants for this. Its not solvable without a huge amount of cash.

That has been the sticking point all along. They don’t even have enough drivers now, so even if they uncovered a pot of gold to buy more buses, without drivers, we’re SOL.

I also attended and they said that it will be decided in early 2025, so would be implemented in the 2025-2026 year. Too late for my current 7th grader.

How can they decide anything without the bus situation figured out??

They can say they would like to but can’t becuase of the bus situation.

“We will revisit this issue at a later date when the economic climate is more conducive to meeting our transportation needs. Student learning is at the heart of our work, but we cannot put aside the economic reality of our budget.” In the mean time, we will bolster our bus fleet with new electric buses.

I don’t know how but for a single school, in our pretty walkable community, there are at least 4 buses (from bus A stop to bus B stop is 5 minutes walk, from bus B to bus C is within 10 minutes walk, from the middle of bus B and C to bus D is between 10-15 minutes walk). So to be meaningful, maybe they should cut the 4 buses to 2, and from bus A ( the farthest bus stop) to school is about 5 -7 minutes drive.

That may work for your school, but not county wide. Those well water and septic McLean and Oakton houses are not close to each other. It is a big county.

Transportation is the issue. There are a few ways to fix this issue:

1. Where safely possible, make all students who live within 1.5 miles walk/bike to school. I think it's currently 1.0 miles.

2. Combine bus stops where possible and combine buses where possible.

3. Get rid of AAP centers in middle schools. That would cut the need for a bunch of buses in some areas.

Pretty sure it is 1.5 miles for middle school already. Our elementary is closer and we had a bus for elementary, but walk to the middle school.

THe kids are already sitting on top of each other so combining buses is a non starter. There is only so far they can legally squeeze kids on a bus. Plus that just adds time to the bus route which puts the entire schedule longer and won’t help start times becuase they will have to start earlier to make all the stops on one route.

AAP centers aren’t making that much difference. Besides, with redistricting who knows where a kid will actually end up going to school right now.
