School psychologist here. No, teachers don’t want a pie. Give them a Barnes and noble gift card instead. I’m sorry but PTAs need to get a clue.

I work in a school where not too many pies were brought in so they had a raffle. I think the teachers who like pie were excited about it. I myself am not a pie person.

I am sending a pecan pie in with my DD tomorrow as the school said they get a lot of pumpkin.

What do schools do over the "winter" holiday season in December? More pies? Luncheon? Gift bags?

NP and I agree with the school psychologist. Some people like them, others don’t, so why not give them grocery store gift cards in the amount of what a pie would cost so they can buy what they actually want? It’s not that hard. I am a parent and frequent volunteer, so I understand the limits. But I really don’t think the overly sweet grocery store pies are bringing widespread joy to our hardworking teachers.

Okay fine but you're missing the point that there are less wasteful ways to gift the teachers. If the PTA doesn't want to risk gift cards, then they can use the workarounds. Our PTA sends weekly emails with links to each teacher's Amazon wish list. So use the Thanksgiving donations to buy stuff from the wish lists and attach a fall-themed handwritten note to it.

No, I think my point was people are asking for things that can't happen. Our PTA does all that.
