| Can anyone tell me if "sweatshirts with kind nice sayings" means a specific brand? Does this mean anything to anyone? |
OP here. Not a troll. It was meant to be tongue in cheek. At this time of year, lots of parents can probably relate to kids asking for random and ridiculous stuff. Our job is to figure out what’s behind the request, and find a more realistic way to grant their wishes. For context, we were in Home Depot walking through the lighting aisle and my son said “Wow! This is so cool! I want a chandelier for Christmas”, half joking and half serious. He knows it’s absurd, but he’s a theater kid and loves bling. This is the age where they start getting interested in decorating their room and making it their own space. I’ll probably get him a lava lamp. Also, he really likes seltzer. A lot. |
I’ve seen this one around and it’s sweet! https://www.thebeeandthefox.com/products/kind-people-are-my-kind-of-people Lots of different versions of that particular one available. |

Teen 15:
Art for their bedroom Asked for a specific cologne for the first time ever so already bought a bottle of that Will get them a new pair of Nike J's because I know they are needed based on where current shoes are hitting all of a sudden They never make lists (beyond when they were early Elementary school aged) so I go with my gut outside of a single request (this year was the above cologne). We're also going out of town, overall I tend to spend on trips vs. gifts for holidays/birthday. |
My teen DS asked for an espresso machine. He likes watching espresso tiktoks. He barely drinks coffee and has never had espresso. |
The power of Tiktok. |
Same. We take them on trips (skiing in WV, Europe, amusement parks, sports tickets, soccer slides, Hoodies from sports events, but they never want anything (not bragging, just frustrating). They have had video game systems they never use. Got them new iPhones last year. They do not care about clothes. Maybe new bikes when they stop growing. Soon maybe new bedroom furniture, upgrading from Ikea basics 12 years ago. Whatever shoes they need, since their shoes last about 6 months and they do several sports. |

My 14yo has asked for a new duvet and sheets for her room, sneakers (Onitsuka Mexico 66 which of course are sold out in every size, or Sambas which are also sold out), Brooklyn charm jewelry, a second ear piercing, curl defining hairbrush and diffuser, a new computer (this was dh’s idea… she’s going to get my old laptop), room decor, a ski backpack, and money for shopping.
She will get some but not all of it. 11yo (going on 18) wants every trendy type of skincare imaginable, a new wallet, leg warmers for ballet, Taylor swift merchandise, new sheets and art for her room. The hardest to figure out is my 9yo son who is only into basketball. His big gift is tickets to see the Lakers when we are in LA in January. |
How old are your children, PP? |
| Beats Solo headphones are $99 (regularly $199) at Target online right now. |
12 and late teens. Why? |
| Any more high teen DS ideas? My kids literally don't want anything and I wish they did! It's hard to think! |
For my late teens, I gave cash last year. Just wrapped up money attached to random groceries - their favorite cereal, ramen, little debbies, etc. All the crap they love to eat, but the real gift was the cash. |
